Die Platte wird bei einer Temperatur von 3000C in einem Strom von trockenem Wasserstoff erhitzt und 1 - 3 min lang bei dieser Temperatur gehalten. Hiebei zerfällt das Cadmiumformiat und es bleibt eine poröse Silber-Cadmium-Elektrode über. Letztlich wird die Platte durch rasches Erhitzen von 300 auf 6400C ebenfalls in einerwasserstoffatmosphäre gesintert und vor dem Abkühlen 25 - 35 min auf dieser Temperatur gehalten.
Das erfindungsgemässe Verfahren kann auch mit andern zersetzbaren Salzen von Cadmium und Indium, Zinn und Antimon und mit Gemengen von Salzen dieser oder davon verschiedener Metalle ausgeführt werden.
Die erhaltene Elektrode kann in Verbindung mit einer Wasserstoff-Elektrode in einer alkalischen Brennstoffzelle, oder in Verbindung mit einer Batterieplatte in einer Hybrid-Brennstoffzelle verwendet werden. Als bestbekanntes Beispiel sei die Zink-Luft-Batterie erwähnt, bei der eine Zink-Batterieplatte und eine Sauerstoff-Elektrode zur Anwendung gelangen.

The plate is heated at a temperature of 3000C in a stream of dry hydrogen and held at this temperature for 1-3 minutes. The cadmium formate breaks down and a porous silver-cadmium electrode remains. Finally, the plate is sintered by rapid heating from 300 to 6400C, also in a hydrogen atmosphere, and held at this temperature for 25-35 minutes before cooling.
The process according to the invention can also be carried out with other decomposable salts of cadmium and indium, tin and antimony and with mixtures of salts of these metals or of different metals.
The electrode obtained can be used in connection with a hydrogen electrode in an alkaline fuel cell, or in connection with a battery plate in a hybrid fuel cell. The best known example is the zinc-air battery, in which a zinc battery plate and an oxygen electrode are used.
