  Kathodenstrahlröhre
 EMI1.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 Materials erhalten.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

miteinem Teig keramisierbaren Glases bestrichen.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

Cathode ray tube, consisting of two parts hermetically cemented to one another, a fluorescent screen on one of these parts, at least one electron gun for sending electrons against the fluorescent screen and a grid parallel to this fluorescent screen, which consists of wires cemented between the two parts, which extend to the outer wall of the Extending piston, characterized in that the surface parts of the piston containing the ends of the wires are covered with a layer of conductive material, which in turn is covered with a layer of a material which produces the tight cement between the two piston parts.

Further features of the invention emerge from the following description of an exemplary embodiment, the drawings showing: Putty point of the wires, the fastening of the wires during the manufacture of the tube and the assembly of the front surface of the cone in a tube according to FIG. 1 can be seen here, FIG. 3 shows a partially broken away view of FIG. 2 and FIG. 4 shows an overall section by a tube according to the invention.

1 shows a color television tube with a focusing grid and a post-acceleration grid, consisting of a conical part - 1 - and a front wall which are cemented or welded together at-3 and form a tight shell. The putty seam can correspond to the geometry of the front wall, i. H. be circular or substantially rectangular. The surface of the front wall is curved, u. between spherical, cylindrical or as usual. Near the front wall - 2 - is the z.

   B. of supports-5'-held screen-5, on which three groups of luminous color strips in the primary colors red, green and blue are applied, and a grid consisting of parallel wires - 4 -, which forms the focusing system, with the luminous color strips and the wires are to be thought of as perpendicular to the plane of the drawing. As is known, however, the light strips can also be attached directly to the inside of the front wall - 2 -.

In operation, the grid and light strips (screen) are kept at different potentials Vg and Ve, which is achieved by connections (not shown) along their circumference.

The tube shown is of a known type and only serves to explain the measures according to the invention.

Fig. 2 presents in detail the attachment of the wires of the grid - 4 - between the abutting parts of the cone-1 - and the front wall-2-. Each wire - 4 - is clamped between the smoothed edges - la and 2a - of the cone and front wall and the connection is made over the entire area with the help of a layer of cement made of ceramizable glass - 6-.

Fig. 2 shows the exact position of the wire - 4 - in the cement layer, between the cone and the front wall,

The conductive layer - 7 - has an extension - 7a - at one point, which is provided with a clamp - 8 - on the outside of the shell.

The sealing of the cement is according to the invention by a on the conductive tape-7-

From Fig. 3 the mutual positions of the individual elements described above can be seen: The wires-4-, here in cross-section, between the edges of the cone-1- and the front wall, the cement material-6- made of ceramizable glass, the Conductive layer - 7 - with its extension - 7 a - and the terminal 8 -, the sealing layer - 9 - made of ceramizable glass with the tensioning threads 10 made of glass.

In the following, a process in the implementation of the invention is described as an example:
The wires are held under the desired tension by a mechanical device known per se in the form of a band of parallel wires.

The appropriately cleaned putty surfaces - la and 2a - of the cone and the front wall are

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

smeared with a dough ceramizable glass. Then these two parts are brought closer to the wire band from both sides and pressed together with a certain pressure while pinching the wires. The entire arrangement is then brought into a heating chamber, the duration of which depends on the type of glass cement used. The heating takes place, for example, at 4400C for one hour.

As a result of this heat treatment, all volatile components are expelled from the glass cement and it changes into a glass-like crystalline solid state in which it fixes the wires and at the same time creates the tight connection between the cone and the front wall.

After any excess material has been removed, the wires are cut off close to the surface of the cement and the cement surface and the wire ends are coated with a paste made of ceramizable glass and colloidal silver.

This dough is also used to make the connection to - up to terminal - 8. Finally, the sealing layer - 9 -, which can consist of the same material as the cement - 6-, is produced, whereby it is ensured that the layer - 7 - is completely covered.

In order to secure this sealing layer - 9 - until it hardens, a tape - 10 - made of glass fibers is placed over it. The arrangement can now be placed on the pump in order to create the necessary vacuum. Expediently, at the same time as the heating necessary for evacuation, the heating of layers 7 and 9 is carried out for the purpose of hardening them, a temperature of 420 ° C. for a duration of 2 hours generally being sufficient.

The advantages provided by the invention include, above all, the simplification of manufacture, since apart from the heat treatment which is necessary in any case during evacuation, only a single additional heat operation is required. Furthermore, the tensioned wires are held in place at the same time as the tight connection of the tube parts with a maximum of two elements.

An additional advantage of the invention lies in the fact that the ceramizable glass used according to the invention is, due to its properties, ideally suited for anchoring the wires.

Since in the arrangement according to the invention the sealing of the cemented point is not brought about solely by the inclusion points of the wires, a stainless, non-magnetic steel of the commercially available type can be used for these wires, with a coefficient of thermal expansion that is slightly higher than that of the glass of the envelope. Since the wires are cemented in in the heat, an increase in the wire tension is obtained during the subsequent cooling, which, as already stated, is of great importance for the image quality.

Fig. 4 shows a tube according to the invention in section, in which the front side is completely flat.

The advantage of a flat front wall is well known and such is useful when the front wall is covered on the inside with the luminous substances. However, a flat front wall increases the risk of implosion. For this reason, and in order to avoid excessive wall thicknesses, curved (cylindrical or spherical) front walls are preferred. In the case of tubes with a curved front wall, however, you either have to forego completely flat image surfaces and grids or accept the disadvantages of independent screens attached to the shell.

It has now been found that the lattice arrangement according to the invention considerably increases the resistance of the shell to implosion, so that a flat front wall with an acceptable wall thickness can be used.

The tube shown schematically in FIG. 4 is a color television tube with three electron guns, a focusing grid, parallel light strips and a flat front wall.

In the drawings, only those details are shown which are absolutely necessary for an understanding of the invention.

The grid - 13 - is part of an electron-optical system of the tube, its other parts with
With the exception of one electrode - 112 - it is not shown which electrode is used for equipotential bonding and promotes the effect of the grid.

The light strips - 17 - are applied directly to the inside of the front wall-14-which previously, e.g. B. was made completely flat with a roller, it is possible to compensate for unevenness up to a tenth of a millimeter.

The layer - 16 - is made of e.g. B. 0, 27 mm wide, closely spaced strips that give the screen ain a completely uniform structure. Three consecutive stripes each form a group of three from the basic colors.

Due to the excellent flatness of the inside of the front wall and the presence of the groove - 110 - on the edge of the screen, any method compatible with a flat surface can be used to apply the luminous strips, but in particular that using a bichromatic colloid as a contact printing method is known for a network of lines on a flat surface.

The groove - 110 - allows the line network to be peeled off, so that the three-way strings of color can be reliably created.

The grid - 13 - consists of a band of parallel wires with a diameter of about 0.1 mm (e.g. made of stainless, non-magnetic steel) and lies parallel to the layer -16-, this parallel position being able to be produced with great accuracy. It should be noted here that each wire corresponds to a group of three on the screen.

Tests have shown that a grid stretched across the tubes in the area of the connection between the front side and the cone causes a considerable strengthening of the tube against external pressures, which may result from a compensation of the stresses that try to expand the shell in the fracture zone formed by the cement . However, this circumstance enables a general reduction in the glass thickness of the envelope by 25 to 3310 compared to known designs.

For example, a glass envelope with already reduced wall thickness, but without a grille, can withstand a pressure of around 2 kg / cm2. The same envelope, but provided with a grid according to the invention, can withstand a pressure of 3 kg / cm2, which provides sufficient security. It should be expressly noted, however, that the reduction in the wall thickness which is possible by the invention can be carried out with both a curved and a flat screen.

Extensive test series have shown that a cathode ray tube with a flat, rectangular front and a grid according to the invention corresponds to the usual safety conditions if the glass thickness of its front wall is equal to 1/25 of the length of the diagonal of the same, or a little less than 1/25 has been.

For tubes with a round front wall, a glass thickness of 1/30 of its diameter is sufficient. As an accessory
