 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

   Process for the production of a blown hose from thermoplastic synthetic material and hose produced according to this process
The invention relates to a method for producing a blown tube made of thermoplastic material, which is provided with material thickenings running parallel to the longitudinal axis at one or more limited points on its circumference.

   It is known that changes in the cross section at the outlet slots of extrusion nozzles change the material throughput rate. Accordingly, only a certain shape of the nozzle outlet slot is required in order to bring about a faster material flow and thus a change in material thickness at the desired points. This measure has so far been successfully used in the production of objects without subsequent stretching in the extrusion process (cf. Austrian patent specification no. 201851). It is possible if no particular strength requirements are made and objects of standardized dimensions are manufactured.

   The blow molding process, on the other hand, is primarily used to manufacture thin-walled hoses, which are, however, subject to relatively high strength requirements. These strength requirements can only be met by biaxially stretching the extruded hose material. As the designation biaxial shows, after this process the extruded material is stretched both in terms of tube length and width while it is still hot, thus enabling an optimal molecular linking process. For example, the stretching moves according to the width of the hose in a ratio of 1: 2.5 to 1: 4 of the circumference of the nozzle slot. You can use a nozzle to blow hoses within the aforementioned limits with optimum strength.

   It is not the circumference of the nozzle opening, but rather the blow-up ratio that determines the circumference of the hose or the width of the hose produced within wide limits.

   When a hose is inflated, the thickening of the material also widens. If a certain width of the thickenings is desired regardless of the hose circumference achieved, this means that a specific shaped nozzle is required for each blow-up ratio and thus for each hose dimension. Since the solidification behavior of the thickenings differs from that of the rest of the hose, the shape of the appropriate nozzle can also be determined empirically. Because of the uncontrolled flow of the thickened material during inflation, hoses with profiled thickenings could not be produced at all.

   Furthermore, a method is known according to which a two-colored tube can be produced in the cooperation of two extrusion presses which eject the plasticized mass through one and the same nozzle, the extrusion presses being charged with differently colored material. To manufacture the actual hose from a plastic with a significantly different melting range than the thickened material has not been possible until now.

   Thin-walled tubular webs are used to a very large extent for the production of packaging in bag form. The variety of packaging tasks has led to extensive specialization in terms of size, shape, equipment and material properties.

  In particular, high demands are made on tear resistance and stability.

   The paper industry has been using carrier bags made of solid types of paper to a large extent for a long time

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 Brought to the market and largely revolutionized sales packaging. For this purpose, extensive and costly machine systems have been developed that enable fully automatic and therefore efficient production of such bags. Paper carrier bags are characterized by a high level of stability and have thus secured a considerable market share, especially as textile sales packaging. The disadvantage of paper carrier bags is their limited tear strength and sensitivity to moisture. Plastic bags avoid these defects, but are soft and flexible due to the material used.

   The plastics industry adopted this type of sales packaging relatively late. A number of solutions, partly based on the production of paper carrier bags, were tried and brought onto the market. They all have one thing in common that they move the solution of the pending problems to the final production. Bag manufacturing machines, some of which are quite complicated, take on the reinforcement of the most stressed bag edges, other machines again weld on stable carrying brackets in the area of the bag opening. All of these solutions require complex technical facilities and are expensive.

   The invention is intended to provide the end processors of tubular films with a special material, in particular for plastic carrier bags, which meets maximum requirements in terms of tear resistance and stability and can be finished efficiently without any special technical effort.

   For this purpose, a tube is to be produced that can be processed on conventional welding machines in order to obtain bags with the desired properties. However, the focus of the solution is shifted to the manufacture of the preliminary product.

   The invention achieves the stated object while avoiding the disadvantages of the previously known methods in that the hose is additionally cooled in the area of the thickened material.

   In this way, the width and thickness of the thickenings can be easily regulated. As soon as the cooling of the thickened areas has progressed sufficiently, the polymer solidifies at these points and remains in its shape during the further inflation process.

   In a preferred embodiment of the invention it is provided that at least one material thickening consists of a different polymer than the hose body. It is possible to press out plastics with different melt indexes through a nozzle. For example, it is possible to press reinforced hoses made of high and low pressure polyethylene through a nozzle, the material thickening consisting of low pressure polyethylene, the rest of the hose consisting of high pressure polyethylene or vice versa. For example, highly transparent materials can be combined with opaque or colored materials, or extremely tough materials can be combined with less tough materials.

   In a further embodiment of the invention, it is now also possible to blow hoses in which at least one thickened material has ribs running in the longitudinal direction, since the profile of the thickened areas no longer dissolves as in the previously known methods.

   The areas of use for the tubes produced according to the invention are manifold and the bags made from them are different and can be adapted to the respective purpose.

   A one-sided reinforcement on the handle edge of a bag made of thin-walled material is suitable for many packaging of light textiles and other flat-lying goods. Bags with and without a bottom gusset and with a reinforced upper edge can be used to attach stable plastic hangers. The weld seam achieved here is of a strength that would otherwise not be achievable. The so-called closable carrying and hanging bag can also be manufactured using this type of hose with little technical effort.

   Two diametrically opposed material thickenings can also be provided on the tube circumference, in which the edges come to rest when the tube is rolled up. Such hoses can be produced with uniform reinforcement on both sides or with non-uniform (rib-shaped) reinforcement on one side, the bag opening or the handle being cut into the rib-shaped reinforced side. Hose reels produced in this way have no conicity whatsoever and can therefore be printed perfectly using any technique. The possibility of inserting a fold afterwards during the welding process gives the base formed from it a special stability.

   It is also possible to insert folds in the reinforced edge zones during the extrusion process. To form the bag opening, a fold is cut in depth. The fold flaps are welded together and perforated to form a handle. The welding of the fold flaps together over the entire width of the fold gives the grip edge a cardboard-like rigidity and tear resistance.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   The characteristic carrying bag tube has a reinforced grip edge and a reinforced bottom fold. The grip edge shows an even or uneven (rib-like) material reinforcement. The latter design gives the grip edge a special strength. The thinner parts located between the reinforcement ribs serve to save material. The ribs can be kept relatively strong without leading to a conical shape of the hose roll, because the narrow reinforcing ribs embed themselves without difficulty in the spaces between the ribs of the lower hose layers when rolled up. The gaps between the ribs, which are thinner in the material, result in sufficiently strong side seams during assembly.

   According to the proposed method, a hose with four thickenings arranged at the same distance on the hose circumference can of course also be blown, with folds being inserted in two areas forming the hose edge, while one thickening is arranged at exactly the same distance from the hose edges. The tube width is here in each case equal to twice the length of the carrier bags to be produced from it. At the same distance from the hose edges, this hose has a reinforcement section on its front and rear side in the middle part, which is kept so wide that a sufficiently wide, reinforced grip edge is provided on both sides when the separating cut is made. The separation of the hose into two equal halves is expediently only carried out during further processing in the welding machine.
