Description

 EMI1.1

 EMI1.1

The invention relates to a power steering device, in particular for motor vehicles, with two switching off the auxiliary power in end lock positions of the steerable vehicle wheels by the
Valves actuated by the steering column shaft, the servo piston of the steering system being manually movable to its end position beyond the switch-off point.

Such hydraulic steering limits, in which the switch-off point for the auxiliary power is independent of the end point of the piston movement, are based, for example, on German patents No. 1104837 and No. 1160318. In the first-mentioned patent specification, two adjustable shut-off valves are arranged in the middle area of the servo motor between the two pressure chambers, and they are actuated by overrun levers carried along on the piston. In the second patent, the shut-off valves, which are positively controlled by means of a toothed segment, are housed laterally in the steering column shaft housing. Both hydraulic steering limiters have in common that they are characterized by a considerable expenditure of resources and by a strong intervention in the structural design of the steering system.

In contrast, it is the underlying object of the invention to create a structurally simple steering limiting device that is cheap to manufacture and easy to assemble.

The invention consists in that the two valves are arranged in the cover of the steering housing and can be actuated alternately via a segment seated directly on the end face of the steering column shaft, the opening valve switching off the hydraulics of the respective pressure chamber of the servo motor. In this case, after the switch-off point is exceeded, as well as in the event of failure of the servo pump, the vehicle can be steered by hand in a manner known per se. The pressurized servo cylinder is switched off in that the valve piston, which ends in a tappet and assigned to the relevant servo cylinder, is lifted by the segment carried by the steering column shaft, thus releasing the path from the pressure chamber of the servo motor to the oil tank for the pressure medium.

Further details of the invention can be found in the drawings which illustrate an embodiment according to the invention. Fig. 1 shows a steering limiting device in a cross section to the steering column shaft. FIG. 2 shows a section along the line II-II in FIG. 1.

18 The valves - l and l '- are arranged in a cover --2-- which closes a steering housing - 3 - with a steering nut --4--. A steering column shaft --5-- is held in a bearing --6-- on the inside of the cover --2--. On the one facing the camp -6-

 appropriate.

A servomotor shown schematically in Fig. 1, the right pressure chamber --80-- via a line --81-- with the valve chamber -13-, and its left pressure chamber --80 '- via a line --81'- - is connected to the valve chamber --13 '- has the reference number -8-.
 EMI2.2

To make it easier to understand the mode of operation of this steering limiting device, it must be taken into account that the servomotor - 8 - and the two feed lines - 81, 81 '- to the cut-off valves - 1 and 1' -, which are shown schematically in FIG , in reality within the steering housing --3-- are arranged.

If a steering movement is carried out by turning the steering wheel, the steering column shaft --5-- rotates with the assistance of the servo motor --8-- in the bearing --6--. If, for example, it is steered in such a way that the pressure chamber --80-- of the servo motor --8-- is applied
 EMI2.3
counter clockwise. The control surface --7 '- thus also moves against the valve piston --1-- designed as a tappet.

Depending on whether the control sleeve --10-- is set by turning the wrench flat - 17-- to the right or left and by tightening the lock nut - 18-deeper or higher on the thread --16--, the valve piston --1-- sooner or later lifted off the valve seat - 14 - so that the pressure medium with simultaneous pressure reduction from the right pressure chamber --80-- via the line 81, the upper valve bores
 EMI2.4
-15 -, flows back. The resulting pressure relief in the servo motor --8 - has a known effect on the steering wheel, where the switching off of the auxiliary power, similar to the failure of the servo pump, has to be compensated for by a correspondingly greater manual force, and the steering limit is clearly indicated to the driver becomes.

Such a steering limitation is known to prevent damage to the steering system by over-turning the steering wheel.

When steering in the other direction, the shutdown process takes place in the same way on the other valve. With the steering column shaft --5 - the segment - 7 - rotates clockwise until the control surface --7 "- lifts the valve piston --11 '- from the valve seat --14' - and with it the left pressure chamber --80 '- via the line - 81' -, the upper valve bores-15 '-, the valve chamber-13' -, the valve seat-14 '-, the lower
 EMI2.5

The length of the control path and the time until a shut-off valve opens can also be determined by segments with differently large spacing between the two control surfaces --7 ', 7 "- and / or by means of arcuate elongated holes -70-- in the segment --7-- The adjustment range of the shut-off valves, which is limited in itself, is advantageously expanded, so that only the fine adjustment of the valves is carried out on the wrench surfaces --17 and 17 '- while the rough adjustment is carried out using the segment --7-- can be done before the housing cover --2-- is attached.

By accommodating the shut-off mechanism in the cover - 2 - of the steering housing - 3, together with the simpler design, a cheaper hydraulic steering limitation is created compared to the known devices.
