Das Einschalten (Zünden) der Lampe erfolgt mit einem Hochspannungsimpuls hoher Frequenz, welcher induktiv in den Stromkreis der Lampe eingespeist wird ; durch diese Lösung erübrigt sich der Einbau von Zündelektroden.
Zur Isolierung der metallischen Kappen --5-- gegen die Zündspannung dient je eine Keramikhülse--7--.
Die erfindungsgemässe Lampenkonstruktion bietet vor allem folgende Vorteile :
Erstens ist es gelungen, Quecksilberdampf-Hochdruckentladungslampen hoher Leistung mit Metallhalogenidzusatz in einer einfachen Konstruktion mit leicht auszuführender Technologie in betriebssicherer Ausführung herzustellen.
Durch den Wegfall der Verlötung von Entladungsrohr und Aussenkolben ergibt sich nicht nur eine Verringerung des Umfanges der Lampen, sondern auch deren Montage wird erleichtert. Ausserdem wird durch die thermischen Verhältnisse der Lampe immer der erforderliche Betriebsdruck des Quecksilbers und der Metallhalogenide im Entladungsrohr gewährleistet.
Wegen der Proportionen der zur positiven Säule der Kathoden und der Entladung gehörenden Flächen führt eine Kathodenzerstäubung von gleichen Massen zu einem geringeren Lichtabfall, als der bei den bekannten kürzeren Rohren sich ergebende. Die Zündspannung der Lampe ändert sich während ihrer Brenndauer im Wesen nicht. Im Inneren des äusseren Kolbens befindet sich nämlich keine (metallene) Leitung, somit kann kein mit der Elektronenemission der Leitungen auftretender Natriumverlust zustandekommen. Derselbe Umstand trägt zur Verlängerung der Brenndauer der Lampe bei.

The ignition voltage of the lamp does not change essentially during its burning time. There is no (metal) line inside the outer bulb, so no sodium loss that occurs with the electron emission of the lines can occur. The same circumstance contributes to the extension of the lamp life.
