<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Überdruckventil--A--von etwa 2 atü.

The invention relates to a method for vulcanizing pre-vulcanized treads, in particular with high profiles, e.g. B. for off-road tires, on tire carcasses with an unvulcanized binding plate in between and covering the profiles, the binding plate and the carcass with an airtight rubber cover or parts of such, creating a pressure gradient between the outside and the inside! 1 of the shell for removing the gaseous constituents under the shell via provided outwardly leading channels and introduction into a pressure chamber that is appropriately tempered for vulcanization.
In a known vulcanization process, the case may arise that the profiling of the tread exerts uneven pressure on the binding rubber. This uneven pressure on the binding rubber is caused by the fact that the cover forms a bridge over the profile recesses and the pressure on this bridge is only transferred to the profile edges. The latter transfer this concentrated pressure to the profile foot, which rests on a plastic, not yet vulcanized layer, which is thus unevenly stressed and gives way to areas that do not show any pressure. This evasion changes the entire profile.
In order to avoid this disadvantage, at the start of vulcanization the profile cavities are put under pressure with gaseous or liquid media, which is slightly below the pressure prevailing outside the envelope. The method is particularly suitable for narrow, deep profiles into which the shell cannot penetrate, e.g. B. normal road profiles. In the case of a method without this additional measure, however, practice has shown that difficulties have arisen in removing the gaseous constituents. In addition, because of its poor elasticity, the envelope has not extended into the base of the base, but has formed an air pocket in it, which has resulted in a reduction in the contact pressure. As a result, the binding rubber vulcanizes porous and does not flow.
Tires afflicted with such defects cannot withstand the stresses; they are rejects.
The generation of the pressure gradient between the exterior and the interior of the envelope can, as the known methods show, be carried out jointly by generating a vacuum inside the envelope or an overpressure on the outside of the envelope or by vacuum or pressure. However, it has been shown in practice that neither one nor the other is sufficient to cause the cover to lay on the profile base; about 20% gaseous components always remain. These air residues collect in the tread depths and prevent faultless vulcanization.
The invention has set itself the task of eliminating these uncertainties and securing a concern of the shell down to the profound level. According to the task, this is to ensure that the binding rubber does not vulcanize porously, that it flows reliably and that the individual parts are perfectly welded together.
To solve this problem, the high profiles of a tread, the inside of which has a straight line of intersection underneath each tread lug in the running direction and is designed with approximately the same curvature as the carcass surface in the transverse direction of the tire, are lined up individually or in groups with a shell that extends to the lowest point of the profile base with a pressure required for the flow of the binding rubber is applied, covered and a discharge channel is provided in the profile base to the outside for the gaseous components.
The correct envelope tension, which varies with the depth of the tread base on the respective tire, is adjusted by using a well-known, highly elastic rubber composition and by the thickness of the rubber skin, whereby several skins made of different materials can be used one on top of the other.
Initially, air of around 1 to 2 atmospheres is injected into the pressure chamber in which the tires are used, which is replaced by the vulcanization-causing hot water of around 5 atmospheres after the tightness of the casing of the inserted tires has been established.
A device for carrying out the method according to the invention provides a partial cover extending from tire wall to tire wall over the tread with reinforced ring-shaped edges arranged under its edge resting on the tire wall, which are pretensioned in the working position by increasing their diameter and a mechanical, tight seal on the Cause tires.
Under these pretensioned edges of the partial cover, a cover covering the tire foot and the inner surface of the tire is to be inserted in the case of repairs that become necessary on the surfaces mentioned above. The sleeves are made of one or more layers of the same or different material, such as. B. rubber heads,
EMI1.1
According to the invention, it is important that the gaseous constituents are also discharged at the deepest points of the base of the profile so that no air pocket can form there which would interfere with the planned, regulated flow of the binding rubber in and under the base of the profile. For this reason, an annular disc is arranged laterally under the cover, n the edges of which are kept free by bridging the lower corners with the cover discharge paths for the gaseous components and / or the rear side is provided with circumferential channels and radial connecting channels. The washer can be made of a heat-retardant material, e.g. B. asbestos, be made to prevent over-vulcanization.
A particularly advantageous method to achieve the object of the invention results when the in
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The tire enclosed in the envelope or partial envelope is suspended in a pressure chamber which is initially filled with air of about 1 to 2 atmospheres in order to check whether the arrangement is tight, and this air is then replaced by hot water of around 5 atmospheres. This exchange process can e.g. B. can be regulated by using an outlet valve designed as a pressure relief valve of 2 atmospheres on the pressure chamber cover. A check valve designed as a float valve is connected upstream. A branch is provided in front of the float valve, which ends in an overpressure valve set to 5 atmospheres with a subsequent drain. The air pressure is therefore kept at 2 atmospheres by the pressure relief valve.
If the pressurized water flows in at 5 atmospheres, the air escapes until the water automatically shuts off the float valve. However, a pressure higher than 5 atmospheres cannot develop because the water drains through the branch and the pressure relief valve set to 5 atmospheres as the pressure increases.
With this change from air to water, it cannot be avoided that air remains in the inner cavity of the tire, which air would be compressed. In order not to leave any air residues in the tire, a flexible air vent is routed to the highest point within the tire. This line can be led through the frame to the outside of the pressure chamber, whereby appropriate precautions can also be taken by valves or the like against the ingress of water into this line.
An embodiment of the invention is shown schematically in the drawings. 1 shows a section in the longitudinal direction of the tire through two high profiles and through the profile base formed between them, FIG. 2 shows a plan view of a cleat segment with two high profiles, FIG. 3 shows a cross section through the upper half of a partial cover in the rest position, as shown in Fig. 4 in the working position, Fig. 4a is a cross-section through a tire that is enclosed in a whole casing (outside and inside), Fig. 4b is a cross-section through the right upper quarter of a tire, the one with the left Half of Fig. 4a together represents the upper half of a tire with a partial cover and a second, inserted partial cover, Fig.
5 shows a cross section through part of a pressure chamber with an inserted tire as an example of the arrangement, FIG. 6 shows an oblique view of part of an annular disk.
In the drawings, -l-denotes the carcass of the tire on which the binding rubber-2-- is applied, over which the profiles 3 for vulcanization are placed on this carcass -l.

Tire transverse direction have approximately the same curvature as the carcass. As a result of the flat surface - 4 - the profile foot rests first in its middle and causes a pressure gradient from this point to the profile base - 5 - where the air is discharged.
In Fig. 1, the outflow of air is shown by small arrows pointing to the reasons for the profile - 5 -. At the lowest point of the profile base 5, a discharge path 6 is provided for any remaining air to a profile cut 7 in which no vulcanization takes place (shown in dashed lines in FIG. 1). However, the air can also be discharged to the outside.

Form binding gums-2-channels-13 and 14-through which the gaseous components are discharged. If profiles are placed, several of which are connected with a rubber skin-19-, holes --33-- can be provided in this skin to remove the air. The holes -33- and the profile incisions -P- are connected to one another by grooves -7'-.
Furthermore, circular channels -31- as well as connecting channels -32- from the circular channels -31- to the discharge paths -13 and 14-formed from the edges-can be recessed in the annular disk -12- (Fig. 6).
The tension of the partial shell is z. B. generated by the manufacture of the shell from flat material, the

The reinforcing edges - 16 - offer a further advantage, as a partial shell - 17 -, which z. B. also covers the inside of the tire, can be subsequently inserted under the reinforcing edges and is sealed airtight by the latter.
A pressure vessel --20-- can advantageously be used as the pressure chamber in which the temperature and pressure required for vulcanization are generated, in which the pressure is achieved dry using compressed air or moist using steam or by introducing hot water .
A particular advantage is achieved if the pressure chamber --20-- is first filled with air at 1 to 2 atmospheres to check the tightness of the wrapped tires that have been inserted, and this air is then exchanged for hot water at 5 atmospheres to initiate vulcanization while venting the air over a
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Pressure relief valve - A - of about 2 atm. By connecting an automatic vent valve - B - in front of the pressure relief valve-A-set to 2 atm, the pressure exchange from air to water takes place completely automatically in the boiler. In order to prevent overpressure in the boiler, an overpressure valve-C-set to 5 atmospheres is installed in a branch of the line in front of the vent valve.
It is advantageous in the pressure chamber-20-z. B. to use a frame --21-- on whose arms 22 - the tires to be vulcanized are hung. The undersides of the covers are then connected via hoses-23-with a bellows-24-inside the frame -21-, which again via a line -25- and a regulating valve -26- with the outside air, can be connected to suction or other devices.
The unavoidable residual air remaining in the interior - 29 - of the tire is drawn off to the outside via a line socket - 27 - with a hose extension, which is led to the highest point in the interior - 29 - of the tire. The pipe sockets-27-of all tires in the boiler are passed through the frame arm - 22 - or the frame arm itself is used as a line.
All remaining air residues, in particular within the upper parts of the tire, which cannot escape, are discharged through ventilation valves and connections up to the highest point within the air spaces in the tire, so that even heating of the tire is guaranteed and all errors in the form of local underheating are excluded will.
