In the case of choke coils for heavy current engineering, predominantly short-circuit chokes, reactive load compensation chokes, test chokes, etc., it is necessary to use insulators between the live windings and the pressure construction, as well as between live windings of different potentials, which on the one hand have the best possible electrical properties and on the other hand must withstand high mechanical loads .

In addition, in the event of flashovers from the arc, the insulators must suffer as little damage as possible, but in no case should they break.

The use of porcelain insulators of special construction and the use of hard paper tubes are known. Insulators with metal fittings cannot be used because of the magnetic field. It should be possible to dismantle multiphase choke coils for transport. The isolators will therefore not
 EMI1.1
entire throttle is compressed by a pressure structure. The insulators are therefore mainly only stressed by pressure on the surfaces that rest on them.

With the previously used porcelain insulators, relatively soft material had to be added to the pressing points to prevent breakage.

Fig. 1 shows a section through the insulation distance between two phase coils of a multiphase choke coil. Hiebei is - 1 - the porcelain insulator, - 2 - the molded piece made of insulating material, - 3 - the soft washer at the pressing points, and --4-- a disc of the phase coil.

The length of the insulators is determined on the one hand by the voltage level that exists between the potentials to be isolated, on the other hand the mechanical force that occurs in the short circuit between
 EMI1.2
In practice, very many lengths come into question, a large stock of different insulator dimensions is required.

As mentioned at the beginning, the insulator should be insensitive to arcing. This condition cannot be met with porcelain insulators, easily inflammable hard paper or plastic.

In areas where strong earthquake loads occur, it is also not advisable to use the brittle porcelain, as breakage of the porcelain insulators is inevitable, especially when resonance phenomena occur.

According to the invention, a stackable insulator, primarily for use in a choke coil, is characterized in that the insulator is stacked from several identical glass fiber reinforced synthetic resin ring bodies, which have ring-shaped shields which extend the creep flow inside, with cylindrical centering surfaces on the pressure surfaces perpendicular to the axis of rotation which prevent them from slipping sideways.

The invention makes it possible to avoid the described disadvantages of the porcelain insulator through the use of synthetic resins, especially those with glass fiber reinforcement. Since synthetic resin is very expensive compared to porcelain,
 EMI1.3
that inside the pipe through the formation of condensation and over time also through contamination
Leakage current resistance of the insulation decreases. As a result, this inevitably leads to an internal rollover.

The second disadvantage of the tubular shape still remains the increased storage because, as mentioned above, numerous different lengths are required.

From the German patent specification No. 1053604 a method for producing a hollow insulator from several insulating body parts is known, in which, however, a smooth and thus insufficient creepage path occurs on the inside. A similar design is shown in German patent specification No. 629522, where the individual stacked ring elements are provided with caps, thereby avoiding a closed creepage path. This design requires a lot of material and is expensive.

The same applies to the solution as in German Patent No. 1035719, where a multi-part post insulator made of individual insulating bodies is described, but the cost of material is equivalent to that of a solid core insulator and would therefore be much too expensive in a plastic version.

The idea of the invention now enables all the disadvantages mentioned to be eliminated at the same time, since this is basically a tubular shape, so little material is required, but the necessary insulation strength is achieved by arranging creep path-lengthening screens outside and inside, even with moisture and dirt. In order to reduce storage, the entire isolator is also composed of any number of stackable individual rings. For the production of numerous different lengths, you only need a ring shape and an end piece.

Fig. 2 shows a section through the new, stacked synthetic resin insulator - 1 - shows the stackable ring body, which is equipped on the outside and inside with ring-shaped shields - 5 -, which also serve as a creepage distance extension. Part - 2 - shows the end piece, which only needs to be used once for an isolator stacked as long as desired. The ring bodies are centered with one another and with the end piece by simply laying them flat against one another. The accuracy required for this can be achieved without special measures when pressing the molded body.

Since the synthetic resin used (glass fiber reinforced polyester resin, etc.) has a certain flexibility, it can be sized directly on top of one another without a soft intermediate layer. The insulator produced in this way is on the one hand elastic in a certain sense due to the material used, on the other hand, the layering of several individual rings gives the possibility that z. B. vibrations can be carried out during earthquakes without breaking the isolator. The requirement for insensitivity to arcing can also be achieved by using a suitable resin.

This goes so far that the resin is not only insensitive to the electric arc in terms of mechanical strength, but that the insulating capacity of the insulator is still relatively good even after arcing.

The idea of the invention can also be used analogously for post insulators and bushings, if one z. B. glued, screwed or connected to one another in another suitable form, the individual insulator part rings. Of course, fittings can also be attached to the ends in a similar way.
