tubes g4, g5 (Fig. 2) and is derived by gl. The pipe sockets K located on the front surfaces of the drum between the tubes J open into the interior of the drum and are provided with suitable valves for the admission of air. The arrangement of the air inlets on the front sides of the drum enables quick and thorough drying by the whole Material comes into contact with the drying air.
At the end faces of the drum are also closed with glass Sicntöftaugungen L1 (Fig. 2) and a pressure gauge, as usual, attached; likewise a sample tap P (Fig. 3) in the cap P 1 of one. jazz pipe socket opening into the inside of the drum The Luftaualassrohr M (Fig. 3) opens inside the tubes E with a knee piece into which a perforated pipe socket surrounded by fine wire mesh is inserted (Fig. 4 and 5). A semi-cylindrical cap M is fastened to this connecting piece, the outer end of which rests loosely on a post M 'and is connected in a hinge-like manner to a flap M2.
The air outlet pipe M goes through the hollow trunnion B, sealed with it by a stuffing box, to the outside for connection to an air pump, in front of which a separator is expediently switched on, on the one hand to separate the components that are carried along at the pipe mouth despite the devices described on the other hand, to prepare the gases evolving from the material in the drum by filtering them for later distillation and use. The separator shown here consists of three superimposed chambers N which are provided with doors and viewing openings S,

and are connected to the suction pipe M3 of the air pump by branch pipes N2, 02, p2 provided with the same valves.
In the upper part of the chambers N, 0, P, wire meshes Q of different mesh sizes and collecting trays Q1 covered with wire meshes are attached to the bottom thereof. From the latter two pipes provided with taps go into a drainage pipe R which opens into a drainage pipe jR connected to the horizontal part of the pipe M, through which the condensation liquid that has accumulated can be drained off.
The operation of the apparatus is as follows: the drum is filled through the opened can C with a suitable amount of the material to be treated, then the cover of the can is closed, a corresponding amount of solution liquid is allowed to run in through the pipe C2 and the drum is set in motion, until the material is sufficiently saturated while the steam supply lines and the air supply lines and air discharge lines are closed. The excess liquid and the extracted oil are then allowed to run off through the downwardly directed tube cl.
After this has happened, the drum is set in motion again, the pipe C2 closes and the pipes G and open; through the former, steam passes into the cavity between the double walls of the drum, through tubes E and tubes F, and heats the material to release its volatiles. As soon as this process takes place, one opens the outlet pipe M and then the cocks of the pipes J while the drum is continuously operating. The expelled gases are collected in the separator and filtered and

Gases are expelled from the material, the cocks of the tubes J are closed and those of the air inserts K.
The incoming air is sucked through the inside of the drum and the pipe M by means of the air pump, while the material in the rotating drum is continuously broken up and mixed by the hot pipes E and F, so that extremely rapid evaporation and removal of the material in the material contained moisture takes place and the material is freed of all oily and gaseous components and can be removed completely dry through the sleeve C from the drum.
