Method for increasing the indicated power in steam engines.

The invention aims to add to the water vapor intended for work in steam engines an amount corresponding to the respective conditions of such a liquid at the place of its use, the liquefaction temperature of which is lower than that of the water vapor. This should reduce the loss of condensation steam in the cylinder of the steam engine

Such endeavors have been known earlier by suggesting. volatile liquids, such as. Add acetone, petroleum ether or methyl alcohol to the boiler water (Austrian patent no. 15839) and thereby obtain a steam mixture in the generator, which was able to show an improved effect against the harmful effects of condensation.

As experience has shown, however, this procedure was in need of improvement; In addition to other minor disadvantages in boiler operation, the main reason is that it is difficult to correctly adjust the amount of liquid to be added to the auxiliary steam

types of steam the need for steam improved in the specified manner is very variable and uneven.

The method according to the present invention thereby becomes a much more economical one and more adapted to the various needs of the practice compared to the already known one. that acetone, petroleum ether, methyl alcohol or the like. The amount and duration of the feed can be precisely regulated in this way. Using simple known means and combining them with the

of the injection liquid automatically in such a way as it is required to best achieve the effect mentioned.

By means of this method, in particular towards the end of the expansion stroke of the piston, the vapor of the acetone or of the other volatile liquid used can be retained in the superheated state by the water vapor. A part of the latent steam heat, which was lost through condensation during normal operation, is converted into energy in this way in the cylinder by the vapor of the acetone or the other volatile liquid concerned.

The thermal efficiency or the indicated performance of the machine increases as a result of the means discussed and tests have shown that this method is also a previously one
