EMI1.1

EMI1.1
In the manufacture of celluloid, camphor is still chiefly used, and it has not been possible to displace it so far, despite all efforts, although substitutes for it have often been suggested. In addition to striving to reduce the extremely high flammability of celluloid by using other additives, the steadily rising price of camphor also makes it necessary to find substances which can replace camphor. As has now been found, chloral hydrate, chloral alcoholate and the like are highly suitable for this purpose. like
The products obtained with it resemble celluloid in every way; they also have the advantage of lower flammability and in this respect also meet all the requirements that can be made cheaply.
Of course, you can add the usual additives for celluloid to the masses obtained by means of chloral hydrate, etc., and organic acid esters of nitrocellulose and mixtures of nitrocellulose and organic acid esters of nitrocellulose or mixtures thereof with organic acid esters of cellulose can be used instead of nitrocellulose.
EMI1.2
cellulose and the organic acid esters of cellulose but also exclusively organic acid esters of cellulose and chloral alcoholate, alone or mixed with chloral hydrate, with or without the addition of the additives customary for celluloid and thereby obtain celluloid-like substances with the specified properties.
Examples: I. 5 parts of nitrocellulose and 2 parts of chlorine are processed in a known manner with the addition of alcohol.
