Process for the production of originals for the purpose of photomechanical
Reproduction.

The invention relates to a process for the production and treatment of original drawings for the purpose of copying them by photomechanical means, reproductions being obtained which are completely like etchings. The method consists in that a plate made of celluloid, gelatin or the like is made rough or grained in a known manner in order to be able to draw on it, whereupon the drawing is applied and the plate is treated with allzol) ol or acetone in order to produce the drawing fix and make the plate transparent again so that it is suitable for carrying out the photomechanical processes for transferring the drawing onto metal or stone.

A polished celluloid plate is used, which is as transparent as possible, and a grain size is produced on its smoothest side, the fineness of which is to be selected according to the character of the drawing to be applied. The production of the grain size

which are covered with a photosensitive layer and from soft to the At. xing and coloring with bold color, prints can be made that exactly resemble the original. The described method is also suitable for transferring drawings onto the, by covering the latter with a light-sensitive layer, exposing it under the celluloid plate provided with the drawing and treating it with hydrofluoric acid. It should be noted that it was known that roughened surfaces are better suited for drawing and painting.

Likewise, it is not new to use painted, transparent sheets as originals in the production of printing forms instead of photographic negatives. However, it was not yet known to smoothen roughened sheets with drawings and make them transparent.
