Description

Erdboden.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The invention relates to a geoelectric measuring arrangement for determining electrical parameters of the ground, in which a galvanic current is supplied to the ground via two spaced-apart power supply electrodes and the potential differences occurring in the ground are measured at two different locations by means of two further electrodes.

Geoelectric measurements of this type have been used for some time to determine the specific resistance and other electromagnetic parameters of the earth.

In the book "Geoelectronics" by Bitterlich / Wöbking, Fig. 5.2 shows a known four-point arrangement (according to Wenner). Fig. 5. 3 shows a measuring arrangement according to Siemens.

A similar measuring arrangement (also called four-point method according to Schlumberger) is shown in the drawings in FIG. 1 in elevation and in FIG. 2 in plan.

By applying a voltage to the electrodes --A and B-- a current I flows through the
Ground. The electrodes --A and B-- are metal skewers about 1 m long, which are hammered into the ground. In this case, in contrast to other methods, the current is supplied by a galvanic method. In the probes M and N-- there is a measurable potential difference, which allows conclusions to be drawn about the specific resistance of the ground at different depths.

The recorded depth range increases with the distance between the current supply electrodes --A,
B--, the so-called display length L. In the petroleum exploration, display lengths are well over
1000 m required.

If the potential difference is registered shortly after the current I is switched off, the method is referred to as IP measurement (induced polarization). The potential differences that occur are approximately 100 times smaller than in the resistance measurements listed above. These
Measurements allow conclusions to be drawn about the presence of certain minerals and hydrocarbons.

Various interference voltages, some of which are natural (telluric currents) and some of which are artificial (50 Hz, 16 2/3 Hz), unfortunately also occur on the --M and N-- measuring probes.

The difficulty lies in achieving a sufficiently high useful-interference voltage ratio in order to achieve clear measurement results.

The useful-interference voltage ratio is often very small, especially with large digestion stages that require long display lengths L.

The following measures to increase the same are used:
1. targeted filtering of the interference voltages with selective filters.

   2. Averaging over several measuring cycles (stacking technique).

   3. Increase in the measurement voltage U to increase the current I.

   4. The useful interference voltage ratio can also be increased by areal excitation. It has already been proposed to replace the current electrodes - A and B - with conductive mats that are laid out on the surface of the earth in order to achieve such areal excitation. In the case of larger areas (a few hundred m2), however, this is associated with high technical outlay and high damage to the land.

According to the invention, in the case of a measuring arrangement of the type mentioned at the outset, it is proposed that a multiplicity of grid-like, parallel earth spikes, which are arranged in the form of an electrode field, be used as current supply electrodes to enlarge the electrode area. The ground spikes arranged in a grid result in a very simple and soil-protecting form a flat excitation with simple means. The name "electrode field" was chosen for such an arrangement. With such an electrode field, a very similar potential distribution is achieved as with the conductive mats mentioned under point 4.

With such an electrode field, areal excitation can be achieved over a larger area with little effort than with the conductive mats mentioned and thus an increase in the useful interference voltage ratio.

3 and 4 of the drawings show two possible electrode fields which form the power supply points. In Fig. 3, for example, 100 earth spikes --S-- are distributed in a grid pattern on a total electrode area of approximately 18 x 18 m2; 4, 67 pegs --S-- are distributed over an area of approximately 27 x 9 m2, the pegs of one row being offset by half the distance between the pegs compared to those of the neighboring row.

In both cases there is an excitation on an area of several hundred m2.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

Experience has shown that a distance of the individual skewers --S-- of approximately 1.5 m from each other is sufficient to reduce mutual influence to an acceptable level.

By increasing the number of ground spikes and thus the total area of the electrode field --E--, the useful-interference voltage ratio can be increased within wide limits to achieve reproducible measurement results according to the respective task. Tests with the electrode fields --E-- shown in Fig. 3 and 4 showed an increase in the useful interference voltage ratio by a factor of 10 to 50 compared to conventional methods.
