Abstract

In an electrostatic paper holder, two electrodes 1, 2 which interengage in the manner of a comb are provided, between which a third, earthed electrode 8 is arranged. The two electrodes 1, 2 are connected via changeover switches 9, 10 to two voltage sources 6, 7 which are in series, the connecting point between the two voltage sources being earthed. The changeover switches are activated separately by a timer circuit 11 during the operation of the holder, to be specific by means of two periodic control signals phase-shifted by 90 degrees, which produces corresponding reversal of the polarity of the voltages on the electrodes 1, 2. Before the voltages are switched off, the changeover switches are simultaneously changed over once. These measures achieve a shortening in the holding time of the recording paper on the holder after the power has been switched off. <IMAGE>

In the holder shown in Fig. 3, a further electrode --8-- is arranged between the electrodes --1 and 2--, which is meandering and is --C-grounded via the connection. 3 has, in addition to that of FIG. 2, two changeover switches --9 and 10-- which are controlled by a timer circuit --11--.

The changeover switches 10 - can be relays or semiconductor switches. The timer circuit - outputs a separate, periodic and rectangular control signal to each changeover switch, the two control signals being essentially phase-shifted by 900, so that the voltage UA, UB applied to the electrodes --1, 2-- corresponds to that in Fig. 4a and 4b has shown the temporal course during operation. It is therefore a two-phase supply of the electrodes --1, 2-- with the electrode --8-- as a common supply electrode, whereby the electrodes --1, 2-- are reversed at different times so that the Paper holding force never disappears during operation.

If the holder is to be switched off, a command from a switch or a control (not shown) goes to the timer circuit from time ta, whereupon this switches the changeover switches --9, 10-- simultaneously, and after a short time, 2 to 10 s,
 EMI2.1
unloads quickly. It has been shown that the holding force exerted on the paper is reduced very quickly in this way. The interval tu (Fig. 4a) between two switchovers during operation is 10 to 50 s, preferably 20 to 25 s.

The invention was explained on the basis of a preferred embodiment with three electrodes and a two-phase supply. It goes without saying that a multi-phase supply, e.g. B. three-phase, with a corresponding number of spatially arranged electrodes is possible.

    PATENT CLAIMS:
