Ein derartig geregelter Destilliervorgang ist in Hinsicht auf die wirtschaftliche Ausnützung der von aussen zuzuführenden Wärme und der Reaktionswärmen, sowie mit Rücksicht auf dip Güte des erzeugten Gases der denkbar vorteilhafteste. Zudem lässt sich bei einem solchen eine Anreicherung des Gases leicht in der Weise vornehmen-und das ist Gegenstand vorliegender Erfindung - dass man Teer, Öle oder ähnliche Stoffe der Retorte unterhalb der Zone, die das noch zu destillierende Material von dem bereits destillierten trennt, zuführt ;

Process for generating gas in standing retorts.
In gas production, efforts are made to enrich the gas as much as possible; the present invention relates to a method for the purpose of such enrichment. To carry out the process, it is advisable to choose a standing retort, which is heated by flame gases in such a way that the highest temperature zone within the retort separates the material still to be distilled from the material that has already been distilled and heat is only supplied to the former . The retort is therefore divided into two parts, namely an upper part, which is heated and contains the material to be distilled, and a lower part without external heating, in which only the material that has already been distilled off is located.
The finished gas is taken from the upper part of the retort, while the lower part is closed by water.
From the zone of highest temperature, which, as already mentioned, separates the actual distillation room from the coke room, the temperature of the material falls both upwards and downwards; upwards due to the type of external heating, in which the temperature is supposed to decrease from the bottom upwards, downwards, due to the heat consumption for the dissociation of the evaporated and highly superheated water vapor and for the evaporation and superheating of the water vapor itself.
With a suitable choice of the maximum temperature one can achieve that the water vapor migrating upwards through the material is completely dissociated, exceeding the zone of highest temperature and entering the distillation room. A maximum temperature of 1100 fully satisfies and is sufficient for this condition.
Such a regulated distillation process is conceivably the most advantageous with regard to the economic utilization of the heat to be supplied from outside and the heat of reaction, as well as with regard to the dip quality of the gas produced. In addition, the gas can easily be enriched in such a way - and this is the subject of the present invention - that tar, oils or similar substances are fed to the retort below the zone which separates the material to be distilled from the material that has already been distilled ;
the presence of the strongly overheated, still undecomposed steam at the feed point of the oil BEZW. between the feed point and the zone of highest temperature the enrichment process comes in very handy.
