  Ebene Steindecke.

 EMI1.1

  Flat stone ceiling.

It is a peculiar flat solid ceiling, as shown in cross section by FIG. The ceiling has two beveled abutment stones b like a vaulted ceiling and between the abutment stones wedge stones c c 'in such an arrangement that stones c turn the narrow side down, the stones c between them turn the narrow side up. The stones are connected to each other by the mortar dowels d, which respectively through recesses e. el (see. Fig. 2) are produced when pouring the joints with mortar.

The ceiling is peculiar insofar as it appears as a whole - with regard to the totality of the stones c and c '- as a vertically right vault clamped between the abutments ab and in this respect is subject to the static laws for vaults. To this extent, there is a side pressure on the abutment a b
 EMI1.1
the related stones are not loaded individually, but the ceiling as a whole is loaded, but then the vault effect comes into its own. With sufficient security, this ceiling is easy to manufacture because apart from the abutment stones, only a stone model is required.

With regard to the individual stone drawn as a diagram in FIG. 2, the following should be noted. Instead of several smaller recesses e, as they are drawn throughout in FIG. 1 and on the left in FIG. the stone can have a uniform large recess r \ as in Fig. 2 right
 EMI1.2
Recesses with mortar with regard to the shape and load-bearing capacity of the dowels would be less visible with a uniform dowel, because they only exist once
