 EMI2.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

In Fig.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Machine for the production of paper vessels.
 EMI1.1

 EMI2.1
are two stamps 7 going back and forth, only hinted at, which are of some form, e.g. B. formed according to FIG. 5, are. These punches are driven by two simultaneously operating shafts 8 and 9 through the drive 10 in any of the suitable and known ways.

The stamp on the left-hand side of FIG. 1 and in the individual arrangement, on the left in FIG. 3, is intended to punch out, form and slowly insert the upper cover 11 into the vessel 6. The stamp on the right-hand side of these figures is intended to punch, train and form the bottom cover 12. use as it is described in connection with the individual figures below.

These bottom and cover closures are punched out of a paper strip M fed continuously transversely to the band 3 by means of feed rollers 15, the feed rollers being driven by the shafts 8 and 9 by a pawl 16 and by the rod 17. If the strip passes a section, it first goes under a stamp 19 (Fig. 2) known of its kind, which is passed through the template 181 in the cover plate 191 (Fig. 4) and through a similar template in the plate 201 (not visible) to make a small opening from the aforementioned strip 14.

M punch out. If the strip continues a further section, the opening 18 will come exactly under the punch 7 'on the left side, which in turn consists of a hollow punch (FIG. 3) and a male mold 21. The hollow punch 20 cuts out a larger circular disc with the opening 18 so that this opening is concentric to the axis of the vessel. A moment later the mentioned punch 20 goes down, presses the disk down and forces it through the die 22 (FIG. 3). 4 illustrates the passage of the strip 14 over the die 22 during the insertion of the closures into the vessel.

The belt 3 receives its drive from a steering rod 23 (Fig. 1), which is driven by the shaft 8 by means of the steering rod 17 and communicates its movement to the pawl and the sliding pawl 24, which on the shaft 25 of the roller 2 (Fig. 1) act. After the lid closure 77 has been inserted into the vessel, the ram mechanism lifts, releases the vessel and the pawl 24 conveys the belt 3 a section further, whereupon another lid is inserted into another vessel and at the same time also the Strip 14 is pushed a portion for each new vessel (Fig. 4).

Often it is very desirable that the disc intersects with the upper edge of the vessels at the upper ends of the vessels and that they have such flanges that are internally connected to the
Wall instead of lying outside. To do this is the stamp. 86 is provided, the axis of which is arranged in such a way that it is exactly opposite the axis of the vessel body after the cover 11 has been inserted and after this has been conveyed onward by one or more sections by the belt 3.

This punch 26 is dimensioned in its stroke by an arrangement described later so that when the lid 11 has been inserted into a vessel and comes under it, it descends on the already inserted vessel lid 11 and down the same through the entire length of the vessel 6 wedges until it reaches plate 4. from which the vessel is carried; now the lower end of the shell of the vessel 6 (Fig. 3) cuts off exactly with the lid. This lower end of the vessel then later becomes the upper one and therefore the cover disk 11 is cut off with the upper edge of the finished vessel, the flange of this closure 11 lying on the inside on the vessel wall.

The drive of the punch 26 is indicated in Fig. 1, where the punch rod 27 with a
Lever 28 is connected, which in turn is hinged to an arm 30 in FIG. This lever has a control rod 32 in 31, which is articulated to the piece 33 of the punch rod of the punch 7 or is otherwise connected to the shaft 8 in any suitable manner.

The stamp 26 is surrounded by a loose sleeve 34 (FIG. 3) which is carried along by the stamp by means of friction, the friction being regulated by a surrounding band 35 by means of a screw 36. If the tension of the belt 35 is adjusted in a suitable manner, the sleeve 34 moves with the punch as long as no particular resistance is encountered; but when this sleeve hits the vessel, its movement is stopped and the punch 26 continues downward and forces the flanged lid 11 onto the lower one
End of the vessel jacket down (Fig. 3). The punch now reverses and the sleeve 34 goes with it until its stop 37 abuts against the bearing 38, whereupon the punch alone continues upwards.

This movement is necessary because individual arrangements have to be made to keep the punch idle while other work has to be carried out by other parts of the machine. If no such devices were provided, the sleeve would descend with the first downward movement of the ram and reach its deepest point earlier than desirable. In order to prevent this, a spring-loaded holding device 39 is arranged which penetrates horizontally through an opening 46 into the sleeve and fixes the same when it is in the raised position. This holding device has an inwardly sloping end 41 which protrudes into the path of the punch 26 and therefore as far as it goes when the punch goes down

 reached.

After the ram has risen free of the vessel, the ratchet and ratchet pawls convey the belt 3 forward a further section and the entire activity described above is repeated.

After a certain number of such sections, the conveyor belt will have pushed a vessel that already has a lid at its lowermost end so far that it comes to a standstill opposite a suitable filling machine, since it is desirable to fill the vessel before
 EMI3.2
and a stamp 44 to stand (indicated in FIG. 3), which punch another flanged, dish-shaped disc 12, press it down and insert it into the upper end of the vessel 6. This disc forms the bottom closure of the now finished vessel; when the paper is parceled, this is sufficient, due to the pressure exerted by the machine, to permanently seal the disc in the bottom of the vessel.

But the disc can also be used in other ways? be permanently attached.

Another procedure of the belt transports the vessel into a suitable receiver or into a suitable machine, where it is printed, provided with labels or otherwise finished.

The upper runway of the belt is supported below each punching and inserting device by an exchangeable frame lying on the main frame of the machine (Fig. 1, 21 and 27), this is of sufficient height to allow the vessel to reach the male mold. If you want to make vessels of a different size, z. B. hold half a liter instead of a full liter, then this frame 4.5 is easily removed and another put in its place, which enables the vessels of different heights to come into the correct position under the male part producing the closure.

In such cases, the stroke of the punch 26 must be changed accordingly and therefore the lever 28 is provided with a series of through bores -1ì into which the pin 31 fits, whereby the stroke of the punch is made according to the length of the vessel. The vessels are made of the same diameter and only their length changes to change their capacity.

These main arrangements of the machine can of course be designed to a large extent differently without departing from the concept of the invention.

In Fig. 5, 6 and 7 is an embodiment of the punch and the pressure die
 EMI3.3
Edge 53 provided, which lies over the upper edge J- of the vessel and forms the same exactly into a correct circle. Since the movement of this resilient ring is limited by the stops 55, the vessel cannot be compressed; however, due to the overhanging edge of the surface 53, an exact circular shape must have been produced. It follows directly from the construction that, when the stamp 20 goes down through the cover plate 191, it hits the paper strip, depresses it through the template 201 and thereby punches out a large disc, which if desired have the opening 18, as described above can.

Once the disc is punched out, the punch 21 goes down and forces the disc through the floating die 50, thereby forming an upstanding flange on the cover. Since the die 50 has meanwhile reached its stopping point at the stops 55, it holds the vascular opening 5-1 just below the overhanging edge of the inclined surface 53 and has shaped this opening into an exact circle, ready to receive the newly formed one. flanged lid.

Immediately thereafter, the stamp 21 inserts the closure into the mouth of the vessel and the closure is so careful that it has been found in practice that it is permanently sealed, especially if the paper has been paraffinized beforehand. The punch then rises again first, the floating die is pressed upwards by its springs, the conveyor belt brings the vessel a further section, another vessel into its place and the whole activity is repeated.

The stamp in FIG. 5 is of a shrinkable arrangement in order to be able to easily leave the vessel free after the closure has been inserted.

In FIGS. 8-9, a fixed punch 75 is provided with through-holes 76 in order to allow the air to pass freely and behind the punch between the bowl-shaped disc.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

penetrate when the stamp is withdrawn. A solid stamp certainly has well-known advantages over an expandable one, but it seals the punched and freshly formed closure so tightly that it tries to create a vacuum, so air must be allowed access, otherwise the closure would tend to to be deducted with the stamp. By arranging one or more through bores 76 these difficulties are eliminated.

Under certain conditions and in certain types of papers, an unperforated, solid stamp has advantages over the pierced and expandable stamps. In Fig.

Figs. 10-17 give details of such a solid, solid punch 77.

On the lower side of the floating die 50 sliding rods 79 are arranged which, when the die 50 is in its uppermost position, project almost inwardly into the barrel of the descending punch, while at its other end they protrude outward over the
 EMI4.1
in which downwardly and outwardly inclined fixed guide rods 80 engage: these cause the rods 79 to slide outwards as they come down with the punch and prepare the vessel before the punch reaches the same.

As soon as the plunger inserts the closure into the vessel, the floating die 50 is suddenly under the pressure of its springs. ? move upwards and the rods 79 attached to them are thrown inwards by their guidance over the upper ends of the vessel and thus prevent the lifting
 EMI4.2
is not desirable in some cases. When such closures are in use, the punch 26 is not put to use.

FIGS. 18-20 show another embodiment of the device which shapes the vessel opening under the punch into an exact circle without the arrangement of a floating ring 50.

In these figures, a fixed die 8. 3 is arranged and rotatable arms 84 provided with semicircular grippers are automatically moved into the position of FIG. 18, around the vessel 6
 EMI4.3
ordered into which the vessel sleeves fit (the dotted lines in FIGS. 21 and 23).

This collecting channel has a slot 91 through which the vessel holders 5 pass. So that the sleeves do not fall through this slot, a hinged tongue 92 is provided and so that the vessel holders can pass, they also have a slot through which this tongue passes. It can be seen that, when the conveyor belt 3 is in motion, the holders 5 grip the sleeve 6, always one each leading away from the collecting channel 90 and under as many punches 50 and punches 20 as are arranged above this belt.
 EMI4.4
secure their exact location under the stamps.

A crank or eccentric 97 has a wheel 98 and can be turned inwards or outwards by the lever 99 in order to tension the conveyor belt 3 loosely or tightly. The bolt 100 holds the parts in any desired position, while the spring 101 constantly pushes the bolt inward through one of the openings in the disc 102. A handle 103 is used to adjust the bolt.
 EMI4.5
lifts a vessel upwards, then return it to its carrier when it has reached the lower side of the die and has consequently been stripped from the punch.

   The roles 105

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

turn easily on their pegs and therefore offer little resistance to the passage of the vessels, while the teeth of these rollers effectively prevent the vessels from lifting without the springs 104 being under tension.

A further embodiment of the holding device is shown in FIGS. 30-37, which are used both to hold the vessels in their specific position and as supports for vessels of different heights in order to bring the vessels into the appropriate position under the stamps. Springs 110 are fixedly attached to the conveyor belt 3 and are arranged in such a way that when the belt runs over one of the drums 2, these springs open (111, Fig. 30) to release the vessels for delivery or space to receive new vessels to accomplish. But when the band continues, these close. Springs and press each vessel 6 firmly against its holder 5, as shown in the upper part of the band of FIG.

Blocks 112 of different heights can be inserted inside the holder 5, on which vessels of different heights rest, so that each vessel of different sizes can be placed exactly under the stamp without having to replace the support frame 45. These blocks are screwed to the holders 5 by screws 113 which engage the holders 5 through grooves 114. These blocks can be used not only for vessels of different heights, but also, if desired, to close vessels of various diameters: for this purpose blocks 115 are used. If one wishes to use vessels of both a smaller diameter and a smaller height, blocks 116 are used.

In such cases, the punches must be brought into line with the diameter of the new vessels.
