Fig. 3 zeigt in Seitenansicht

Railcar coupler
EMI1.1
to bring about automatic coupling of the car by pushing it against each other and in which a safety coupling is arranged which automatically comes into effect when the main coupling breaks.
For this purpose, each carriage is provided with a permanently attached coupling hook, a coupling loop which can be rotated around a pin in this valley and, according to the invention, a second hook which is rotatably arranged above the loop on a horizontal shaft and which serves as a safety hook. The coupling loop and the safety hook can be brought into the effective or ineffective position by rotating this shaft.
The automatic coupling takes place when the end of the almost horizontally standing coupling loop hits the beveled front edge of the coupling hook when the car collides with each other and guides it along this. Wodurcd the Sedieife is lifted to the tip of the hook, whereupon it falls into the hook as a result of its own weight. In this case, the safety hook is also raised and brought into such a position that, if the coupled loop tears with the loop of the other car, it immediately engages and creates a safety coupling.
The drawing illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, namely FIG. 1 shows a plan view of two car ends provided with the automatic coupling, the coupling parts being disengaged. Fig. 3 shows in side view

Ends in open slots of two guide pieces o, o is guided. A lever is connected to this width. A coupling loop j, which is provided with a horizontal transverse bolt i, is rotatably attached to a bolt ta passing through the lower part of the attachment d and through the hook b.
A cranked pair of links / i, A (Fig. 1) connects the mentioned lever / by means of bolts g, i with the coupling loop j. In order to keep the coupling loop in a nearly horizontal position, the lever f is supported by a lever on the hook b
EMI1.3
a safety hook resting on the coupling loop f is arranged drchbar.
By rotating the shaft e, the coupling loop j can be raised and lowered. whereby the safety hook resting on it w joins this movement.

and the lever p, p into the hook opening (Fig. 2). The coupling loop of the other car is lifted a little and comes to rest above the safety hook m of the first car, so that a safety coupling is immediately established if the coupling loop breaks (Fig. 3,).
1--
The weight of the safety hook resting on the coupling loop j and the levers f, p connected to the shaft e, as well as the armature h certainly prevent an automatic disengagement,
In the event that the buffers of two cars are strongly compressed, a surface b2 is provided behind the vertical part of the hook b on which the coupling loop can move.
This coupling is sufficiently flexible to negotiate sharp curves.
