c ine heitere Farbe.

C ine cheerful color. Sufficient lime is added and the mixture is stirred until a sample of the liquid mixture treated in this way shows no further discoloration after settling. The latter is then allowed to settle and the liquid above the precipitate is then decanted off.
EMI2.1
if vigorously stirred during the same.
The decanted liquid is either used directly for boiling again, or it is fortified beforehand in some way. It can be used to produce a stronger hydroxide solution with carbonate and lime, or it can also be strengthened by dissolving alkali carbonate or alkali hydroxide in the same or with soap as required. With the exception of the reinforcement with soap, the partial or total reinforcement of the liquid can be carried out in the stirred tank, be it before, during or after the treatment with lime.
The process is suitable for all alkaline solutions used to treat cotton or cotton goods, i.e. for sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate or potash eyes (ash extracts), furthermore for caustic soda and potassium hydroxide solutions as well as soap suds, and finally for mixtures of the alkalis mentioned.
As for a specific example of what amounts of caustic agent
