Flame-proof fabrics, in particular for theatrical decorations.
Up to now, theater decorations have been tried to be made by soaking them with some suitable solution. This impregnation and the resulting flame safety only lasted for a limited time, since the effect ceased after a short time as the solution dried and the solution salts popped off.
Theater decorations have also been made from a mixture of asbestos and wool. Finally, it is already known to use the ability of animal hair, in particular wool, not to maintain and pass on the flame for flame protection purposes.
The invention solves the problem by avoiding impregnation and without using ashes as the base material, in that the fabric is made from threads which are spun from a fiber mixture of animal hair and silk fiber. As so) che animal hair comes primarily pig bristles, buffalo hair, foal hair, goat hair, dog hair and the like. Like. Considered, while wool, because it is too fibrous and rough and can not be painted well, should be excluded.
The animal hair is mixed thoroughly with the silk fiber, for example with cocoon waste. It is advisable to boil the material and treat it with baking soda, potash, oil and formaldehyde to soften it, which makes it easier to spin and also easier to paint. The ! The mixture of fibers made of animal hair and silk fibers produced in this way is then spun and woven in the usual way.
Thorough tests have shown the flame safety of such a fabric.
The fabric is also excellently suited for theatrical presentations, as it can be painted in the same way as ordinary canvas.
