The invention relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine having at least one exhaust gas recirculation line, in which an exhaust gas recirculation valve is arranged, wherein the exhaust gas recirculation valve is actuated in dependence on the operating state of the internal combustion engine.
JP 2004-092477 A discloses an internal combustion engine having an exhaust gas recirculation line between an intake and an exhaust system, wherein an exhaust gas recirculation valve is arranged in the exhaust gas recirculation line. During a deceleration process, the exhaust gas recirculation valve is prevented from being opened. Thereby, the exhaust gas recirculation rate can be kept small in a renewed acceleration process, which reduces the smoke emissions.
Furthermore, it is known, the exhaust gas recirculation quantities in dependence of the intake manifold pressure, or
Charge pressure to regulate, for example, from US 4,022,237 A, EP 0 930 423 A2, DE 10 2005 004 832 AI or DE 32 25 867 AI.
The object of the invention is to allow for an internal combustion engine with external exhaust gas recirculation rapid torque build-up.
According to the invention, this is achieved by activating a transient function in the event of an increased torque requirement, which at least reduces, preferably interrupts, the exhaust gas flow in the exhaust gas recirculation line and increases the exhaust gas flow again only after reaching a defined torque increase.
A particularly rapid torque build-up can be achieved if the exhaust gas flow is increased from a defined torque increase up to an optimal exhaust gas flow.
If a higher torque is requested, the exhaust gas recirculation device closes.
Once the desired torque is reached, the exhaust gas recirculation valve is opened at a defined speed, at the same time the boost pressure is increased accordingly, so that the effective engine torque does not change. In this way, unacceptable torque fluctuations can be prevented. The exhaust gas recirculation valve is opened only until the optimum exhaust gas recirculation rate has been set. As a result, a significant improvement in the torque build-up can be seen.
The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to FIG. * *
The figure shows a diagram in which the torque M, the position of the exhaust gas recirculation valve EGR, and the boost pressure p over the time t is plotted.
Dashed lines indicate the state of the art without activated transient function.
Solid lines represent the inventive method with activated transient function again. The torque curve is denoted by Mi, the boost pressure with pi and the position of the exhaust gas recirculation valve EGRi in the inventive method. The corresponding quantities with deactivated transient function are designated M0, Po and EGR0. The reference p 'indicates the basic boost pressure.
At a time tx, an increased torque M12 is requested starting from a low torque Mn. From the increased torque request, the recirculated exhaust gas amount is interrupted, i. the exhaust gas recirculation valve is switched from a full open position 100% to a closed position 0% and only opened again when the requested torque Mi2 is reached at a time t2.
From time t2, the exhaust gas recirculation valve is opened at a defined speed, at the same time the boost pressure pi is correspondingly increased, so that the effective engine torque does not change. As a result, torque fluctuations in the vehicle can be prevented.
It is essential that with a positive load jump, a transient function is activated, which interrupts the exhaust gas recirculation amount and the external exhaust gas recirculation only aufregelt again as soon as the desired engine torque M12, ie the corresponding boost pressure p has been reached. If the exhaust gas recirculation is regulated too early, a delayed load build-up becomes noticeable.
Thus, the exhaust gas recirculation valve remains closed until an opening and thus a mixing in of the recirculated exhaust gas for driveability aspects is possible.
Thus, two effects are prevented in the load structure:
On the one hand, the exhaust gas mass flow is not absent on the turbine of the exhaust gas turbocharger: The exhaust gas mass flow that would otherwise not be supplied to the turbine in the event of high-pressure exhaust gas recirculation during the torque buildup is available for a more rapid turbocharger run-up. On the other hand, exhaust gas recirculation at full load requires a higher charge pressure (compared to combustion without exhaust gas recirculation), so that the same high charge is in the cylinder and thus the same torque can be deployed. However, this slightly higher boost pressure takes a longer time to build up.
By interrupting the exhaust gas recirculation at a positive load step, these two negative effects can be prevented.
If the stoichiometric operating range is abandoned for component protection reasons, especially in the high-load range of the supercharged internal combustion engine, and a richer operation is run, then the fueling requirement can be reduced when adjusting the exhaust gas recirculation valve, i. When the exhaust gas recirculation valve is opened again, the injected fuel quantity is simultaneously reduced in order to keep the exhaust gas temperature constant. This allows a consumption saving.
In the case of high-transient accelerations, for example in first gear, the exhaust gas recirculation may optionally be interrupted until the end of the acceleration process.
