Moving direction.
The rod y1 preferably has a right-angled cross-section and the contact

which are arranged alternately on both sides (Fig. 3), so that each of them can easily be connected to the resistors. The contact piece z1 is preferably made of carbon in the form of a brush, which is let into a notch in the carrier and rests on a spring by which it is resiliently pressed against the contacts y.
The circuit of the field magnets goes from the positive pole of the dynamo through the winding of the field magnet to the end of the resistor, then through contact pieces y and through the carrier z to the rods Z2 and from there to the negative brush. In order to reliably prevent a conductive connection between the negative brushes and the dynamo housing, the carrier z can be isolated from the rods z2 and the circuit can be established by a flexible connection or the like. The resistance wire is wound onto a body z3 made of porcelain or the like.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 4 and f), instead of the resistance wire, a row of narrow carbon disks z4 is used, which are laterally side by side

slides in the tube and, as it approaches or moves away from the coal disks, serves to dé. to press them closer together or to reduce the degree of this pressure. If they are pressed tightly, the resistance of these disks is practically negligible, but if they are only held lightly together, the resistance is much greater.
The movements of the sleeve v by means of a forked lever v2 and the toggle rod serve to regulate the pressure between the discs; 1, the latter being attached to the piston Z7 and serving, when the sleeve v moves laterally in one direction, to reduce the pressure between the cohed discs and thus to increase the resistance, while when the sleeve moves in the other direction the pressure between the panes

and curved edges are created, rather than just a pair; the sleeve is also provided with two opposing pins, each of which presses against the corresponding edge of the regulator.
Instead of the helical spring surrounding the shaft, any other can be used
