  Process for absorbing nitrous gases.

For the absorption of nitrous gases, such as such. B. has been generated in an electric furnace, with suspended bases one uses the trickle towers. However, this method has the technically significant deficiency that a sludge gradually settles in the gaps between the filling material, which makes effective absorption increasingly difficult and can ultimately lead to complete blockage of the tower.

It has now been found that the absorption of the nitrosone gases by means of suspensions
 EMI1.1
In continuous operation disturbances occur, as they are unavoidable with the absorption by means of milk of lime in trickle towers. can be carried out when absorbent of the type mentioned is supplied to the gas mixture in fine distribution in drip form. With this method of operation, even when using a relatively small amount of equipment, an extremely effective and smooth absorption is achieved and a comparatively high level of absorption is achieved
 EMI1.2

As bases which can be used in the present process, we mention in particular the oxides, Ilydroxides or carbonates of alkaline earths or magnesia, etc.

The cheapest materials such as iron, cement, etc. can be used to manufacture the absorption apparatus. Of course, you can use the present method both to absorb the total amount of z. B. from the electric furnace used nitrogen oxides, as well as to bind the last fractions, which after absorption of the main amount of the same, z. H. by water in the form of nitric acid in the gas mixture.
