Process for the chemical cleaning of cleaning wool.
The subject of the invention is a method of extracting, cleaning and drying cleaning wool contaminated by dirt, oil, etc. using chemical solvents.
What is new about the present process is that in all three stages of the process, washing, evaporation and drying, only compressed air is used to move and loosen the textile material. This is intended to simplify the technical aids for carrying out the process as much as possible, prevent the cleaning wool consisting of fibers from becoming matted and thus obtain an open, reusable cleaning item.
The process proceeds in such a way that the items to be cleaned are first washed thoroughly with the solvent (carbon tetrachloride) in order to dissolve the oil it contains, the items being cleaned by a stream of air which is blown through under considerable pressure , moved and loosened up. During the subsequent distillation of the solvent, heated by a steam coil, for example, the blowing of compressed air to move and loosen the items to be cleaned is continued.
After the solvent has been distilled off, the cleaned cleaning wool is dried by further heating the heating coil, which generates the heat required to evaporate the solvent, and at the same time compressed air is blown through the cleaning wool, so that the dust-like impurities still contained in the cleaning wool enter the Chimney to be swept away.
A device for performing the method is shown schematically in an exemplary embodiment in the drawing in vertical section.
1 is a flat kettle in which a perforated flat container 2 is mounted on support cheeks 3. The perforated container 2 is used to receive the dirty cleaning wool which is introduced through manhole closures 5 arranged on the boiler cover 4.
The pipe 9 is used to charge the boiler with the cleaning agent (carbon tetrachloride), the pipe socket 11, which can be shut off by valve 10, to connect the boiler either to the pipe 13, which can be shut off by valve or tap 12 and leading to the chimney, or to that through valve or tap 14 shut-off pipeline 16 leading to a separation vessel. The boiler is heated by means of a heating pipe coil 16 fed by steam. 17 is a shut-off valve 18,

Hood which is provided with a pipe connection 20 leading to the cooler 23 and through which the volatilized solvent passes.
To blow the air through the cleaning wool when it is washed through with the solvent at the beginning of the distillation or when drying the cleaning wool, the tube 21, which is arranged at the bottom of the container 2 and provided with fine holes, connects to a high-pressure fan by means of a nozzle 22.
To observe the liquid level in the boiler 1, a water level glass is also provided on the same in addition to the other necessary fittings.

filled and air is blown by the high-pressure fan through the pipe 21 through the cleaning wool in the container 2, with the result that all parts of the cleaning wool are moved and washed through with the solvent. The dissolved oil and the excess part of the solvent are fed in gaseous form through pipe sockets 11, valves 10 and 14 to the separator.
The solvent contained in the boiler 1 is then distilled off by heating the coil 16 with the assistance of the compressed air flow. The distillation continues until the liquid level in the boiler 1 below the bottom of the container 2 has sunk. Then valve 18 is opened in order to divert the non-volatile components of the solvent and the separated oils to the still. The distillation can then be repeated, after again solvent through pipeline. 9 is filled. After cleaning has taken place, drying takes place with the help of the compressed air flow.
In this case, the valve 15 is closed, while valve 12 is open, so that the air together with the solid, dust-like components still contained in the cleaning wool blows off through the pipe connection 13 to the chimney.
