Die Stromdichte I) etnigt 2U () Ampere pro Quadratmeter
EMI1.1

Process for the preparation of solutions of nitrogen pentoxide in nitric acid monohydrate.
It is known that nitrogen dioxide or nitrous acid can be oxidized electrolytically to nitric acid monohydrate in the presence of water or highly dilute nitric acid and nitric acid can be produced in this way. It has now been shown that if, after the formation of nitric acid monohydrate, further amounts of nitrogen dioxide or nitrous acid are introduced or dissolved in the acid and further oxidized electrolytically, nitrogen pentoxide is formed, which is able to dissolve in the concentrated nitric acid.
This previously unknown electrolytic formation of nitrogen pentoxide in the presence of nitric acid makes it possible to technically produce solutions of nitrogen pentoxide in nitric acid monohydrate, which up to now could only be obtained by dissolving finished nitrogen pentoxide in anhydrous nitric acid.
Example.
To produce an acid that should contain 20% N2O5, for example, 17 kg of pure nitrogen dioxide are dissolved in 80 nitric acid monohydrate and this solution is placed in the anode compartment of a cell, which is separated from the cathode compartment by a diaphragm. Platinum is used as the anode, which when using pure acids such as. ste are raised in the processing of the products of the electrical oxidation of atmospheric nitrogen, is not attacked. The current density I) equates to 2U () amperes per square meter
EMI1.1
Nitrogen pentoxide is oxidized to form an acid with 20% N2O5.
To obtain acids with a different N2 Os content, appropriate amounts of nitrogen dioxide are dissolved in monohydrate and proceed in the same way.
