Abstract

The invention relates to a carrying handle for packaging, wherein the carrying handle is formed from a sheet of paper (1) or comprises a sheet of paper (1), wherein at least two spaced-apart incisions (2) are provided in the sheet of paper (1), such that a handle part (3) is formed from the area of the sheet of paper (1) located between the incisions (2), and wherein a round, in particular a circular, recess (5) adjoins each end (4) of the incisions (2). The invention further relates to packaging comprising such a carrying handle.

CARRYING HANDLE AND PACKAGING

[0001] The present invention relates to a carrying handle and a package comprising a carrying handle. More specifically, the invention relates, among other things, to handles for industrial paper carrier bags or other containers.

[0002] In the current state of the art, handles for industrial paper carrier bags are typically made of a nonwoven-based material. Such handles generally consist of a multi-layer combination of materials, such as the following layer arrangement: paper-polyethylene (PE)-polypropylene (PP)-polyethylene (PE)-paper.

[0003] This combination typically provides sufficient strength and durability for the handles, but has significant disadvantages with regard to recyclability. In particular, the individual materials of the handle are difficult to separate from each other or from other packaging materials, which complicates the recycling process and reduces its efficiency. This represents a significant disadvantage of the prior art.

[0004] In addition, the manufacture of these handles requires complex production processes and the use of multiple materials, which increases production costs and further compromises sustainability.

[0005] Materials with a simpler structure or which are easier to recycle, on the other hand, typically do not have sufficient mechanical stability for the requirements placed on carrying handles.

[0006] The present invention aims in particular to overcome the above-mentioned disadvantages. Specifically, the conflict between the required strength and recyclability is to be at least partially overcome. In particular, the invention therefore aims to create a recyclable handle structure for industrial paper carrier bags. This should preferably be easy to manufacture, exhibit high strength and durability, and simultaneously minimize environmental impact. It is particularly advantageous if the handle structure is formed from a single material.

[0007] Within the scope of the present invention, it was surprisingly found that this conflict of objectives can be solved at least partially by providing a carrying handle made of paper or a paper-like material.

[0008] Such a paper-based carrying handle consists, in particular, of a single material layer made entirely of paper. This single-layer construction enables simple and efficient recycling, as the separation of different materials is eliminated.

[0009] The paper used can be bonded, inter alia, with a starch adhesive, for example, to a container or other object that is also made of paper or comprises paper, thereby forming a package with a carrying handle. In particular, the use of a starch adhesive for bonding can provide an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution.

[0010] Preferably, the carrying handle has a special cut design or pattern, which surprisingly has been found to drastically increase the mechanical strength of the carrying handle.

[0011] The cutting pattern forms, in particular, a handle part which can be grasped, for example, by the hand in order to be able to use the carrying handle in the intended manner.

[0016] Surprisingly, the combination of the cutout and the material recesses in particular leads to a particularly stable support structure, whereby the recesses can in particular prevent the paper sheet from tearing.

Carrying handle according to one of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that - the paper sheet (1) has a tear resistance index of at least 10 mN.g/m² in the machine direction according to ISO 1974:2012 and/or of at least 15 mN.g/m² in the transverse direction according to ISO 1974:2012, - the paper sheet (1) has a tensile breaking work index of at least 5.0 J/g in the machine direction according to ISO 1924-3:2005 and/or of at least 2.0 J/g in the transverse direction according to ISO 1924-3:2005. 10. Carrying handle, characterized in that the cuts (2) run along the machine direction of the paper sheet (1). 11. Packaging, in particular paper packaging, comprising an interior space surrounded by a packaging material (6) and a carrying handle (7) arranged on the packaging material (6) according to one of claims 1 to 10. 12.
