Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Process for the production of flat or letterpress forms for single or multi-color printing by means of gelatinized metal or other plates.

Aluminum and other plates are in previous processes both for collotype printing. has been put into practical use for collotype transfers on lithographic stones or metals, as well as lithographic printing forms.

Furthermore, photographic printing plates with more or less noticeable grain, the so-called wrinkled grain, have been produced for a long time by using various means and by drying the chromate gelatin layer in a photo-printing oven at correspondingly higher degrees of heat (about 500 to 600), which are then used for transfer printing for flat or letterpress purposes were.

The use of formaldehyde (formalin) as an additive to ('hromatge) atine for the production of printing plates by transferring collotype printing plates was defined in the DRP No. 137644 of June 15, 1901 (Ötto W. Hof @ mann in Leipzig-Reudnitz) and it was about making the grain of the collotype layer "open"; the one with a

gelatinized aluminum or other plates are produced chemically and not by the action of heat. Such plates can not only. As with older methods, impressions made on transfer paper can be used, but can also be transferred directly to stone or metal when applied with the appropriate color.

The latter process ensures the exact dimensional accuracy of the transfers, since aluminum and other usable plates neither expand during transfer printing nor change in size in any other way, as a result of which the process is suitable for color prints of various types.

or harder gelatine evenly coated and freely dried at normal room temperature, between 8 'and 260, as it is available depending on the season.

These plates, which are kept in stock, are sensitized in a chromate bath, if necessary, dried in the dark, also at normal room temperature, then copied under a photographic negative and immediately placed in a formaldehyde bath, in which the grain is produced. In this bath, the plates are moved (rocked) until the desired grain size is achieved when viewed under a magnifying glass. The most suitable solution appears to be a 1: 100 solution of formaldehyde, to which 6 to 20% pure sulfuric acid or a mixture of nitric, sulfuric or hydrochloric acid is added. You can also first put the plates in an acid bath and then in the formaldehyde bath.

The grain formation is influenced by the nature of the gelatin, by the thickness of the gelatin layer, by a smoother or more granular base of the same, by a weaker or stronger formaldehyde solution, by the addition of acid to the same or in the same proportions by corresponding separate baths and finally by the
Bathing time, which on average does not exceed 10 minutes. The bathed panels are then immediately soaked in cold water, then dried at ordinary room temperature
 EMI2.1
That you can also use plates for collotype printing purposes, or in urgent cases for transfer printing
 EMI2.2
Multicolor or multicolor printing is used as a substitute for complicated processes and mass production is considered in all cases.
