 EMI1.1

 EMI1.2

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 is the improvement of the strength properties of the end products while saving expensive input materials. These advantages are offset by disadvantages in the homogeneity when using granulated blast furnace slag directly, which means that quality control can only be carried out to a limited extent.

  AT-PS 358458 describes a process for the production of aggregates in which blast furnace sand, in particular metallurgical pumice sand with a grain size of up to 4 mm, is admixed with expandable constituents such as clay or loam and the clay or loam fraction makes up 20-70%. Finally, the mixture is pelletized and burned in a known manner.

  DE-OS 3932908 describes a cement matrix especially for glass fiber reinforced cement or concrete. The additives, in solid or liquid form, bind the calcium hydroxides that form during the hydration process, the matrix itself consists of a standard or

  DE-OS 3704014 explains the use of blast furnace slag for the production of flame-retardant lightweight concrete. The blast furnace slag is used in a grain size of 5 to 10 mm.

  In addition to the blast furnace slag, gas concrete quarry, Portland cement, sand, sodium silicate and water are also used.

  DE-OS 3915373 shows a building material for traffic areas and foundations using converter steel slag as well as finely granulated waste materials from steel and power plants. DE-OS 3720286 describes lightweight concrete in which lightweight concrete such as polystyrene foam concrete u. Ä. are used comparatively as cement paste as for heavy concrete. Instead of gravel additives like normal concrete, light materials like pumice,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 Pumice, expanded clay, blast furnace slag, other slags and the like are added.

  According to the prior art, the use of a lightweight concrete is provided for the production of building materials with low thermal conductivity. However, due to the nature of its aggregate components, lightweight concrete has a drop in strength compared to normal concrete, so that the possible uses are severely limited.

  According to the invention, the surprising solution to the stated problem is achieved in that normal concrete can be produced with the thermal properties of a lightweight concrete. This normal concrete contains a ceramic sand as aggregate component, which, under special controlled conditions, from rock melts such as B.: is made from blast furnace slag. This ceramic sand is mostly glassy and accordingly has a low thermal conductivity.

   Table 1 below shows comparative values for the thermal conductivities of different substances.

  The following exemplary embodiment is intended to explain the idea of the invention, the use of the aggregate component according to the invention also being possible as a dried, fractional addition to binder matrices for high-quality requirements.

  Example A molten blast furnace slag with a temperature of 1485 +/- 20. C and a specific amount of 1.4 +/- 0.2 t / min is made by placing it in a water flow of 30 +/- 2 m3 / min and a Temperature of about 18 * C cooled so that a predominantly glassy granules are formed. After mechanical dewatering, the granules are brought to an equilibrium moisture content of about 5%. This product pretreated in this way is subjected to attrition z.

Due to the different bulk density of the aggregates, the weight was measured according to volume proportions, based on the standard sand mixture.
