Method for sharpening thin wires made of difficult to melt, relatively easily oxidizable metals for electric light bulbs.
In electric filament incandescent lamps, incandescent wires made of difficult-to-melt metals have recently been used, which are brought to the desired elasticity and the required small diameter in such a way that they are gradually drawn through openings that are becoming increasingly finer, known as drawing stones. Wires of a certain thickness are pulled through slightly smaller openings and have to be sharpened at the ends so that they can first be pushed through the opening so that they can be grasped on the opposite side.
Sharpening can be achieved mechanically with some of the metals in question, but this method fails with other metals because they are too hard.
This is e.g. B. the case with tungsten.
The subject of the present invention is a method in which the desired sharpening of wires made of relatively easily oxidizable metals is achieved by oxidation. Namely, the wire end z. B. heated in a Bunsen flame to a sufficient temperature, the surface is oxidized and the diameter is more or less reduced after the oxide residue has been stripped off, depending on the duration of the glow. The sharpening is to be allowed by shorter or longer annealing at the relevant points so that only gradual transitions in the diameter are present.
