Description

    Mante < ae8cho3.

    Mante <ae8cho3.

The invention relates to jacketed projectiles with a central insert that extends against the front. and the rear end of the jacket and has the purpose of giving the insert the most advantageous shape and arrangement possible.

According to the invention, the insert is provided with a conical rear end, which faces the pressure of the powder gases over an area extending over the entire cross-section of the projectile and is separated from the jacket filling by a gap. 4th
The subject of the invention is shown in an exemplary embodiment on the drawing in longitudinal section.

The insert b, made of hard metal, Elsen, steel, etc., lying in the longitudinal direction of the projectile, can be designed as a solid or hollow body and have a suitable, round or angular cross-sectional shape, so that as little as possible of the filling with heavy metal (e.g. Lead) certain interior space of the projectile is lost and the highest possible cross-sectional load is maintained.

The insert b is supported with its front end on the inside against the somewhat thickened tip f of the jacket a and extends to its rear end, where it is supported with its conical end d against the inwardly curved edge e of the jacket. The pressure of the propelling powder gases is mainly absorbed by the insert and transferred in a straight direction to the tip of the projectile. It is therefore advisable not to firmly connect the insert to the lead body c, but to leave some leeway g. It can also be one of two or more parts, e.g. B. be arranged from parts b and d composite insert.

The external shape of the projectile can be selected in any suitable manner; At high muzzle velocity, the bullet shape shown, for example, with a slender, partly conical, partly oval front part is advantageously suitable for better overcoming air resistance, for which a cone angle between 20 and 30 is particularly suitable.

The space c between the insert and the jacket and, in the case of a hollow insert, this too, is filled with a metal or a metal alloy (e.g. lead, tungsten or the like) of high specific weight. The execution of the jacket depends appropriately on the muzzle velocity of the projectile and the strength of the twist. It is advantageous to make the front part of the jacket slightly stronger than the cylindrical guide part of the same.
