 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Device for the mechanical emptying of metallurgical furnaces, in particular zinc mu1feln.

The present invention relates to devices for the mechanical emptying of metallurgical furnaces and the like, in particular zinc muffles, in which a steam stream is introduced into the ore residues by means of a pipe.

The removal of ore residues from metallurgical furnaces, in particular from zinc muffles, has so far been carried out almost exclusively by hand after each degassing period, with the glowing zinc ash being pulled out by simple scrapers. This work is extremely time-consuming and very strenuous for the operating team because the workers are exposed to the radiant heat of the ovens. About this evil. to remedy this, various mechanical devices have already been made, which, however, have so far not proven themselves in practical operation. So are z.

For example, all devices that imitate or replace the scratching by hand through the introduction of machine-operated scrapers, screws or the like in the zinc muffles or replace, due to the high temperature prevailing in the muffles practically impracticable because the mechanically moved parts after a short time become red-hot and are therefore soon unusable. The mechanical emptying of the muffles has therefore already been attempted by a stream of air, steam or gas introduced into the residues by means of a pipe, but this method has not yet led to any practical result, because the shape and arrangement of the feed device chosen so far do not match the requirements Meet requirements.

The essence of the present invention consists in the fact that the end of the feed pipe is surrounded by a special steam space in which the steam flows out of the feed line or in which it is developed and from which it then only enters the rear main outlet Working space exits. The outlet openings of the pressure medium supply lines can be arranged adjustable and the pressure medium supply line can be designed as a double-walled tube, so that either the outer ring line or the inner cavity serves as a return line for the excess pressure medium supplied as coolant.

When using water as a pressure medium when clearing heated retorts, muffles, etc., the steam chamber is designed as a steam development chamber with the largest possible surface area, which is heated from the outside by the glowing gasification residues and the radiant heat of the retort walls.

In the drawing: FIG. 1 shows a longitudinal section through the head of the pressure medium supply line; FIG. 2 shows a cross section through the head and FIG. 3 shows a schematic representation of the overall arrangement of the device.

Experience shows that the water vapor generated from the relatively low water content of the load is sufficient to throw it out of the muffle if a sufficient outlet opening is not provided in good time for the water vapor that develops. The introduction of water vapor into the residues must therefore be regarded as a useful means of driving the glowing powdery ore residues out of the zinc furnace muffles.

As can be seen from Fig. 1 of the drawing, the device consists of a pressurized water supply line a, which is provided at one end with a specially designed head b. The design of this head according to the present invention consists in particular in the arrangement of a special steam development and collecting space c surrounding the end piece of the pipeline, through which a continuously uniform steam formation from the pressurized water supplied through the pipeline a is ensured because the pressurized water exits the pipeline is converted into steam in a room that is uniformly heated from the outside and does not come into direct contact with the ore residues, as is the case with the known devices.

The advantage of this special steam space at the end of the pipeline is that it allows the blowing effect of the steam, which is known to be caused by the instantaneous, multiple increase in space when the water passes into the vaporous state, to be fully exploited. For this purpose, d, r vapor space is drawn tightly towards the rear to an outlet opening d of relatively small cross-section, as a result of which a powerful vapor flow of constant strength is achieved. The main steam outlet opening d points to the rear, i.e. in the working direction, so that the escaping steam stream drives the ore residues directly out of the muffle.

In addition to the rear main steam outlet opening d, the steam

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

Any additional outlet openings e, e1 arranged in the room can be provided in order to achieve a loosening of the material by the steam escaping here.

As can be seen from Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, the ÜhertrittsöSUNGEN / the pressurized water from the pipe a into the steam space c are intended as annularly arranged slots, the outlet cross-section of which can be adjusted by the displaceable piston 9 in order to adapt the amount of steam escaping to the various conditions to be able to. The present device also enables the arrangement of a double-walled feed pipe, the inner cavity of which, as indicated in FIG. 1, for example, is used to return the excess pressurized water, whereby a further significant advantage of the present device over the known similar devices is achieved.

Since the supply pipe a is exposed to the direct radiating heat of the muffles and the glowing ore residue over a large part of its length, constant automatic cooling of the supply pipe a is very desirable. This is now achieved by the present invention in a very simple way that the head b is always supplied with such an amount of pressurized water through the outer ring line of the plentifully dimensioned pipe that only part of it can pass into the vapor space and evaporate, while the excess water serves as cooling water and is discharged through the inner space of the pipe a.

The arrangement can of course also be reversed, so that the fresh water is fed to the head in the middle, while the excess water escapes in the outer ring line.

Likewise, the adjustment device for the exiting pressurized water can be changed as desired, e.g. B. can be arranged in the form of a nozzle or, in the case of known conditions, with the correct choice of the outlet cross-section, it can also be omitted entirely.

As shown in FIG. 1, the pipe head is advantageously given a shape tapering towards the front and tapering towards the rear, in order to facilitate the introduction into the ore residues.
For this purpose the outer wall of the head can also be provided with rib-like elevations, which can be arranged either in a straight line or in a spiral shape.

In the above, the use of the present device for clearing heated muffles or the like is assumed, whereby Wasp jar is advantageously used as the pressure medium, which is only evaporated when it passes into the externally heated steam space. In this way, the pressurized water supplied is first of all used as a coolant in a very advantageous manner, but then, as already mentioned above, the instantaneous multiple enlargement of space which occurs with the development of steam is advantageously used. The present device can, however, be used for clearing cold retorts or the like without further ado, in which case the pressure medium must then be supplied to the pipe head directly in vapor form.
