Papier, Kartonpapier und dgl. und Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung.
Bei der Herstellung von Papier, Kartonpapier und ähnlichen Stoffen wurden bisher Kaolin, Gips, Schwerspat, Schlemmkreide und verwandte Stoffe als Füllmaterial benutzt.
Es ist auch vorgeschlagen worden, Kalk als Füllstoff zu verwenden, indem man dem Papierbrei Kalkwasser zusetzte. Dieses Kalkwasser wurde dann durch Kohlensäure neutralisiert. Im letzteren Falle war es aber nötig, einen besonderen Stoff zum Leimen des Papiers hinzuzufügen, da der neutralisierte Kalk nicht zum Leimen verwendbar war.
Das neue Verfahren besteht darin, dass Kalk sowohl als Füllstoff als auch gleichzeitig als Bindemittel benutzt wird, indem man ihn nicht durch besondere Substanzen neutralisiert. Würde dies geschehen, so würde dem Kalk die Bindungsfähigkeit genommen werden. Das so hergestellte Papier ist ausserordentlich billig, da der Kalk gleichzeitig zum Füllen und Leimen verwendet wird. Gleichzeitig ist es besonders zum Schreiben und Drucken geeignet, ohne dass man ein Auslaufen der Schriftzüge zu befürchten hat. Auch das Aussehen des Papieres ist sehr vorteilhaft. Sollen stärkere Papiersorten hergestellt werden, so kann natürlich ausser dem Kalk noch ein besonderer anderer I, eimstoff zugesetzt werden. Ebenso können auch noch andere Füllstoffe, wenn es nötig erscheint neben dem Kalk verwendet werden.
Der Kalk kommt als s Ka) ziumoxyd b/w. Kalziumhydroxyd in Verwendung, und zwar wird letzteres dem Papierbrei zweckmassig im Holländer in Form von Kalkmilch zugesetzt, die tuau am besten aus frisch gelöschtem Kalk herstellt.

In the manufacture of paper, cardboard and similar materials, kaolin, gypsum, barite, chalk and related materials have been used as filling material.
It has also been suggested to use lime as a filler by adding lime water to the pulp. This lime water was then neutralized by carbonic acid. In the latter case, however, it was necessary to add a special substance to glue the paper, since the neutralized lime could not be used for glueing.
The new process consists in using lime both as a filler and as a binder at the same time, without neutralizing it with special substances. If this were to happen, the lime would lose its binding capacity. The paper produced in this way is extremely cheap because the lime is used for filling and glueing at the same time. At the same time, it is particularly suitable for writing and printing without having to worry about the lettering leaking. The appearance of the paper is also very beneficial. If thicker types of paper are to be produced, a special type of glue can of course be added in addition to the lime. Likewise, other fillers can be used in addition to the lime if it appears necessary.
The lime comes as calcium oxide b / w. Calcium hydroxide in use, namely the latter is expediently added to the paper pulp in the Hollander in the form of milk of lime, which is best made from freshly slaked lime.
