Das beste tierische Fett, welches zur Herstellung des Schmiermittels dient, ist Schweinefett und in dessen Ermangelung Pferdefett. Der Russ kann durch Reissblei oder Graphit ersetzt werden. An Stelle des Benzins kann Petroleum oder MineralÖl verwendet werden.
