Description

 EMI1.1

It is already known in nut thread cutting devices to attach the tap to an axially displaceable spindle and to provide a lock against rotation of this spindle so that the tap with the spindle is drawn into the work piece. In the known designs, the lock is arranged in such a way that a stop on the spindle slides along a stationary, usually adjustable or axially controlled stop, so that thread is cut until the two stops slide against each other and the spindle moves with the Workpiece can rotate.

This design has the disadvantage that when the thread is cut, despite the increase in the working pressure, the bearing surface of the two stops becomes smaller and smaller and only a line contact takes place at the last moment, i.e. at the time of the greatest working pressure. The invention remedies this inconvenience in that the movement of the stop for locking the spindle takes place in a radial, approximately radial direction, or in parallel to such a direction. As a result, the same contact surface of the stops is secured during the entire time of thread cutting.

The drawing shows an embodiment of the invention, namely FIG. 1 is a cross section through a female thread cutting device with omission of all parts that are of no importance for the invention, and FIG. 2 is a plan view thereof.

The tap c is inserted into the chuck b of the thread cutting spindle a.

The spindle a is rotatable in its bearing and axially displaceable. A spring d tries to pull it out of the workpiece which is in front of the tap. If threads are to be cut, the spindle e, which is provided with a driver f, is moved towards the workpiece in a known manner by the control of the machine. The driver f rests against the thread cutting spindle a and presses it against the workpiece until the tap has gripped. If the spindle a is now secured against rotation, the tap is drawn into the workpiece by the rotation of the workpiece and the thread is cut until the spindle a is released and it can rotate with the workpiece.

By switching the direction of rotation of the workpiece, the backward movement of the spindle a takes place in a known manner.

For locking and releasing the spindle a, a stop g is now provided according to the invention, which can be rotated about the axis h. The blunt edge of the stop lies against a shoulder i of the spindle a. This approach can extend arbitrarily far in the axial direction of the spindle and is expediently made so large that it still has enough contact surface for the stop g in every position of the spindle a, i.e. even with the greatest axial displacement. A rod k guided on the frame of the machine rests against an arm or shoulder of the stop 9 that extends backwards. A double lever m swinging around the pin n is attached below this rod, one arm of which can be seen with the interposition of a

Remove spindle a and release it. The control of the lever m is carried out by a cam disk p, which interacts with a shoulder q on the lever and suddenly releases it. By setting the cam, the moment at which the release of the spindle a takes place can be precisely determined.
