<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Bevel gears.

EMI2.1
Press the screw bar 8 onto the protractor d in such a way that it is secured against rotation in the desired position.
On the ruler c sits a movable clamp J, which can be secured in the desired position by a screw 9; the upper plate of the clamp 1, covering the division of the ruler, is made of transparent material and provided with a cross-shaped line which plays on the ruled edge of the ruler c; perpendicular to the edge of the ruler c, two further crosses f 'and f "are provided on both sides of this cross, the distances of which from the central cross are selected in a certain ratio, as will be explained further below.
With the device set up in this way, one can primarily determine the apex angles of the bevel gears or control the angles that have already been calculated. Move the ruler b so that the mark btt is above the graduation mark on the ruler a, which indicates the number of teeth on the wheel, and turn the ruler c until its graded edge is the graded edge of the ruler b intersects in that graduation which corresponds to the number of teeth Z, of the wheel A1, an angle 90 +? appears on the protractor d under the point 0 of the vernier e.
2. If this process is repeated with the difference that the number of teeth Zj of wheel A1 is applied to ruler a and the number of teeth Z2 of wheel A2 to ruler b, the angle 90 "- -tXj appears on the protractor .
To read or to check angles that have already been calculated at the tooth root and tooth tip, i.e. the angle that the dividing cone forms with the tooth tip cone and the tooth root cone, use the clamp f. To understand the arrangement of marks j'and and f ", it is necessary to provide the following explanation:
The tooth heights above and below the pitch circle can be represented as cathetus in right-angled triangles, both of which have the length P to the second cathetus:
EMI2.2
where M is the module or the division (see FIG. 6). This length P is therefore proportional to the length which is determined on the ruler c by the intersection with the edge of the ruler b (FIG. 1).
The equation (Fig. 6) then applies to the surface angle ss:
EMI2.3
where'U means the tooth height above the pitch circle.
EMI2.4
means below the pitch circle. In practice, however, both heights U and V are designed in a certain ratio to the module M, so that the value it M can be used for U and the value Zu M for V. Then we get the equation:
EMI2.5
and similarly the equation:
EMI2.6
In practice, Ku = 1 and Kv = 1 # 116 are regularly taken.
Based on these equations, the mark f 'is at a distance of two parts of the division of the rulers a. b above the edge of the ruler c, the mark f "in
EMI2.7
Shift position I '(Fig. 7) until its edge intersects the cross-shaped mark 1', then the ruler c should be rotated from position 77 to position 77 'until its edge passes through that graduation of ruler b that passes through the average of the mark f 'was determined, whereupon the protractor d would indicate the angle (90 + α-ss).
For simplification, however, one assumes that @ tang Bo sin 4 and proceeds in the following way:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Man postpone. the clamp f on the ruler e until the cross-shaped mark f 'comes to stand over the edge of the ruler b (Fig. 8). This part is noted; the ruler c is then rotated from position I1 to position II @ in such a way that its edge passes through the marked graduation on ruler b. The angle (90 + α + ss ') results at the protractor d, where ss # ss' can be taken. The resulting error is negligibly small.
Similarly, one determines the tooth root angle 1? #? ' (Fig. 9).
Another purpose of the device is to control the surface angle of the cone on the lathe. For this purpose, fix the protractor in the position according to FIG. 8 by means of the screw 8 and put it on (the machined wheel in the manner illustrated in FIG. 4, so that the need to use templates is eliminated larger dimensions, after loosening the screw 4, take the ruler c off the protractor d and put it on the wrong way round, as can be seen from FIG. 4, in order to achieve a fairly long arm za.
The reading of the surface distances of the pitch, tooth root and tooth tip cones, which data are required when planing the conical gears on special planing machines, is carried out as follows:
EMI3.1
Units provided, which division begins exactly above the center of the pin 1.
The number of parts on ruler c averages its lower edge with the
EMI3.2
but the division on ruler c is not carried out in the same units as the divisions of rulers a and b, so one has to multiply this by the ratio of the parts of both divisions, and so one gets the real surface length LI of the dividing cone of both bevel gears.
EMI3.3
the cross-shaped mark f 'cuts; the graduation thus obtained is noted. The ruler is then rotated in the position 77 '(FIG. 7) until it intersects the edge of the ruler b in the marked graduation; the length read on the ruler c
