EMI1.3
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Terrestrial telescope for variable magnification with a collective system of variable position.
The invention relates to terrestrial telescopes in which the position of the collective system can be changed to change the magnification. The collective system is to be understood as the collecting system that (consisting of collecting or collecting and dispersing members) lies between the objective and the inversion system.
So far, a change in position of the collective system has mostly only been carried out in order to present the observer with a sharp image again after a change in magnification brought about by another lens system, but neither in this case nor when the change in position of the collective system results in a change served the purpose of enlargement, a collecting member of the collective
EMI1.1
such a member of the collective system can be transferred from a position in front of the lens focal plane to a position behind the lens focal plane; the type of overfilling movement is arbitrary. B. exist in a shift.
In this way it is possible that the change in position of the collective system can assume relatively high amounts without the correction of the spherical aberration changing significantly. To keep the observer sharp in every position of the collective system
To present an image, one also expediently changes, as is known, the position of one or more other lenses, ideally using suitable couplings that
Bring the lenses into their required position at the same time.
With telescopes, the rearmost one
Lens has an invariable distance from the foremost lens when the magnification is changed and in which the inversion system or, in the case of a multi-element inversion system, one of its members is adjusted to keep the image presented to the observer
Collective system has become relatively low.
This is an advantage if the inversion system is one of the usual ones, symmetrical in terms of curvatures and types of glass
Systems want to use because the correction of astigmatism is essentially preserved
EMI1.2
The aperture stop belonging to the inversion system limits and if all members of the inversion system participate in the adjustment, then, if this adjustment is small, the advantage is still achieved that the position of the exit pupil remains essentially unchanged.
In order to avoid significant changes in the correction of the spherical aberration, it is recommended to use at least that part of the collective system that is moved from a position in front of the lens focal plane to a position behind the lens focal plane when the magnification is changed to give a symmetrical shape to the senses just mentioned.
Is in a telescope corresponding to the invention, the sharpness of the image presented to the observer is brought about by readjusting the inversion system and belongs to the position of the collective system in which its front main plane with the
Focal plane of the objective system coincides, a position of the inversion system in which this the image that the collective system presents to it, in the same size to the eyepiece
EMI1.3
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
a shift of the collective system from one of its end positions to the other no reversal in the direction of movement.
This direction of movement is expediently directed in the opposite direction to that of the collective system, since then the displacement of the inversion system contributes to the amplification of the change in magnification of the telescope.
In two positions each, which are on different sides of the focal plane of the lens, the collective system offers the inversion system images that lie in one and the same place. This property is used to advantage if the telescope is only to provide two different magnifications, since in this case an image set for one position of the collective system is also sharp in the other without changing the position of other lenses.
If you want to be able to change the magnification of the telescope continuously while maintaining the distance between the rearmost lens and the foremost lens of the telescope, the collective system is expediently two-part and the distance between the two parts can be varied, again preferably using a coupling. It is then possible, without having to couple one of the two members with other lenses, to keep the position of the image presented to the inversion system unchanged when changing the magnification, without a significant change in the correction of the spherical aberration occurring.
If the variability of the telescope magnification is to be particularly high, then, in addition to changing the position of the collective system, other known means of changing the magnification can be used, e.g. B. equip the telescope with an objective or an eyepiece changing device.
In Fig. 1 to 4 of the drawing, the optical system of a telescope corresponding to the invention is shown in four different embodiments. This optical
EMI2.1
Reversing system in Fig. 3 and the collective system in Fig. 4 are designed in two parts.
The focal lengths of the individual lenses or the ocular system and, for five different positions of the collective system, the telescope magnifications V corresponding to these positions and the distances between the individual lenses or the ocular system from the objective are given in the table below, neglecting the thickness of the lenses . In the example according to FIG. 1, in order to maintain the sharpness of the image when the collective system is shifted, the reversing system and the eyepiece are adjusted, both by the same amount. In Fig. 2 to 4 the distance between the foremost and the rearmost lens cl telescope is unchangeable.
In the example according to FIG. 2, the image is sharpened by shifting the inversion system, in the example according to FIG. 3 by shifting the front link of the inversion system and in the example according to FIG. 4 by adjusting the two panels or of the collective system against one another.
