Durch eine nachträgliche Erhitzung auf 800 bis 9000 C und nachfolgende rasche oder langsame Abkühlung werden die Legierungen wieder hart und nicht oder nur schwer bearbeitbar. Diese Wärmebehandlung bildet also ein Mittel, um die aus den Legierungen hergestellten Gegenstände nach erfolgter Bearbeitung zu härten. Die Legierungen können daher auch z. B. zur Herstellung von Kugellagern, die der Rostgefabr oder dem Angriffe des Seewassers ausgesetzt sind sowie zur Herstellung der zugehörigen Kugeln Verwendung finden.
Die zur zweiten Gruppe gehörigen Legierungen können z. B. folgenden Gehalt an Chrom und Nickel haben: 8% Chrom und 20 bis 10% Nickel
