Process for the electrolysis of chlor-alkalis using horizontal diaphragms.
In the electrolysis of chloralkali ions using horizontal diaphragms, it is important for the current yield that the formation of hypochlorite, which occurs when it penetrates
EMI1.1
tnndcrt is. One tries to achieve this through a precise stratification in the liquid, e.g. n. Spread a thick layer of barium sulfate and asbestos on the filter asbestos cloth. Although this almost prevents the formation of hypochlorite, it causes a significant increase in tension.
According to the invention, a good stratification of the liquid without such a loading layer is achieved in that the liquid space above the asbestos hole is divided into the largest possible number of small compartments. As shown schematically in FIGS. 1 and 2, this can be achieved by arranging parallel transverse strips a made of chlorine- and alkali-resistant material, such as glass, porcelain, clay, synthetic material made of cement and asbestos. into the container B above the filter cloth b. These transverse walls can be inserted into suitable grooves in the container walls. The transverse walls prevent turbulence in the liquid and, as a result, the chlorine 10 from entering the lower layer above the diaphragm.
An even more extensive subdivision can be achieved by entering the departments
EMI1.2
dieR also serve to fix the transverse walls a. On the other hand, a subdivision of the liquid space can also be achieved by a regular or irregular arrangement of these hollow bodies alone, as shown in FIG.
