Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Process for the recovery and revitalization of decolorization cooler
Discoloration power.

   Patent no. 68169 protects a process according to which decolorizing carbon with high decolorizing power is obtained by heating all kinds of carbonaceous substances, such as cellulose, sawdust, peat, lignite, hard coal, animal waste, etc., with zinc chloride.

   The heating, as can be seen from the example in the patent, must be carried out until the chlorine-zinc is distilled.

   It has now been found that it is not necessary to heat the mixture of organic matter with zinc chloride until the zinc chlorine is distilled in order to bring about the conversion of the organic matter into high-quality decolorizing carbon, but that it is completely sufficient to mix the organic To heat the substance with zinc chloride to temperatures at which the zinc chlorine does not volatilize, provided that the mixture is only heated at such temperatures until the organic substance has been converted into active carbon under the influence of the anhydrous zinc chlorine.

   This new process represents a significant technical advance over the process according to patent no. As a result of the lower reaction temperatures in question, the consumption of heating fuel is lower in the new process and, since there was no volatilization of zinc chloride at these temperatures, there is no need for condensation of zinc chloride vapors, which condensation in the process according to the patent No. 68169 is necessary for economic reasons, and it is also possible to carry out the process at this lower temperature in an apparatus made of metal, e.g. B.

   Iron to complete, which is not economically feasible with the process according to patent no. 68169, since the carbon-zinc vapors that occur would cause the iron to be destroyed quickly.

   Like the process according to patent no. 68169, the process forming the subject of the invention for the revitalization of decolorizing carbons of any origin can be used.
