to have reached closure. If it is desirable to carry out a leaching in order to obtain the titanium and iron compounds formed in the step-by-step decomposition in solution, it is advantageous to use as few solvents and the solutions as possible
 EMI2.2
The conference is to be carried out in such a way that a leaching solution obtained by leaching the mass is added to the freshly digested mass and only after the mass has been treated with such a lye, fresh water is added for complete leaching, as is customary with countercurrent leaching.

It turns out that the hydrolysis of the dissolved titanium compounds and thus also the presence of free disintegrating agent in the alkaline solutions obtained is avoided. It has been found that the lye obtained in the manner indicated contains a greater amount of titanium dissolved than T i O2 than is equivalent to the disintegrating agent present.

The leaching of the products obtained by the step-by-step digestion can of course also be carried out by adding water directly to the latter.

The alkalis obtained after the first, second, third etc. digestion can be used individually

yield of titanium hydrate compounds. In such alkalis, the concentration of free disintegrating agent will become so high during the precipitation that it will prevent the simultaneous precipitation of iron hydrate compounds to a significant extent. The precipitation can, of course, be carried out using any suitable method of heating.

In the filtrate obtained after the titanium hydrate compounds have been filtered off, the concentration of the iron compounds formed and of the disintegrating agent released by hydrolysis of titanium hydrate compounds is so high that the former can be obtained
