Description

    Mine weather tester.

It is well known that a flame changes its nature and shape when the composition of the air changes. With the flame burning freely in the air, these changes can only be perceived when they have become relatively large. If, on the other hand, the flame is left to burn inside a narrow tube, it is observed that the flame is significantly more sensitive to changes in the composition of the air. According to the present invention, this phenomenon should be applied to testing mine air.

In general, a flame produced by a liquid fuel behaves the other way around than one produced by a gas, namely: A gasoline or candle flame shortens when the oxygen content of the air decreases or the content of non-combustible gases increases becomes. The flame lengthens when the content of flammable substances increases. With a gas flame, e.g. B.

Acetylene, the opposite occurs in that the flame lengthens even if the content of non-combustible gases increases or if the content of oxygen decreases. The same lengthening occurs when the content of combustibles increases. With the increase in the content of non-flammable substances, there is a change in the appearance of the acetylene flame, namely it becomes less shiny and reddish.

The phenomena described here are only visible when the flame is burning freely, as mentioned at the beginning, when the changes in the composition of the air are great. Relatively smaller changes, however, are not perceptible when the flame is burning freely; by letting the flame burn within a narrow bend, the phenomena assert themselves earlier, so that on these

In the drawing, an embodiment of such a pit air tester is shown, which is designed here as a pit safety lamp. Of course, other embodiments are also possible, in particular open lamps, if one only has the intention to detect dull weather etc.
