Catching and device for processing cylinder covers with inclined converging
Surfaces.
The cylinder lids, which have a cylindrical part and surfaces merging into this, roof-like inclined converging surfaces, as they are often used for explosion engines, were previously machined by milling in several operations. With such processing in several work steps, inaccuracies can naturally easily occur due to the reclamping of the workpiece.
According to the invention, these inaccuracies are avoided in that the cylinder cover is machined on the lathe in one operation. For this purpose, when machining the surfaces of the workpiece that converge at an angle, this or the tool receives an axial back and forth movement with every half revolution. This depends on the radial distance between the tool and the axis of rotation and the axial position of the points of the surfaces to be produced that lie in this radius.
If the roof-like converging surfaces of the cylinder cover are flat surfaces, the axial stroke which the turning tool has to perform with every half revolution of the workpiece is due to the Fo. mel for a right triangle b = a tg 1: 1., where a is the radial distance of the turning tool from the axis of rotation and x is half the angle enclosed by the inclined surfaces.
The converging surfaces need not be straight planes, of course, but they can also be curved inwards or outwards, in which case the axial stroke of the turning tool must be selected according to the curve of these surfaces.
To carry out the process, a support of the lathe that is displaceable in the longitudinal clearing and carries the turning tool is controlled by a cam rotating at the same speed as the faceplate carrying the workpiece, which has a cylindrical part and a bevel or the Curve of the converging surface of the workpiece corresponding, tapered part.
The cylindrical part of the cam is used to control the turning tool, while the middle part, which is at the intersection of the axis of rotation with the intersection of the two inclined surfaces, is machined, and the tapered part starts from this cylindrical part and causes a gradual increase in the axial stroke of the turning tool.
To enable such control of the turning tool, the longitudinal support of the lathe is connected to a transverse support, one part of which carries the turning tool. By adjusting the transverse support, the turning tool is switched so that its radial distance from the axis of rotation increases more and more. With this adjustment of the transverse support, the part to be influenced by the control cam is slowly moved past the control cam, whereby the increase in the axial stroke of the turning tool takes place automatically.

Turning tool d is carried by a cross support g. The latter sits on a longitudinal support lz and can be moved in the transverse direction. The longitudinal support h can be moved in the longitudinal direction and the transverse support follows its movements.
The support g is pressed against the cam f by a spring i with a roller k. Since the part fi of this cam is cylindrical, the turning tool d does not change its axial position during machining of the central part of the workpiece.
To the further out lying parts, i. H. To machine the inclined surfaces b and bl of the workpiece, the turning tool is adjusted in the radial direction by moving the transverse support g on the longitudinal support h. Here, the roller k of the cross slide moves in the direction of the axis of rotation of the cam. f against this, so that the roller k passes from the cylindrical part / 1 to an adjoining, tapering part f2.
This part of the cam is designed in such a way that the longitudinal support and with it the transverse support carrying the turning tool executes an increasing axial stroke according to the incline of the surfaces b, bl of the workpiece with increasing adjustment against the axis of rotation.
The control cam. f is driven by gears 1Jl, m1 at the same speed as the workpiece rotates.
If the transverse adjustment of the support g has progressed so far that the turning tool d is at such a distance from the axis of rotation that it processes that point of the workpiece at which the search-waving surfaces b, bl protrude into the cylinder surface a.
