Das untergetauchte Boot muss entweder das Schiff ohne eine solche unmittelbare. der Menschlichkeit entsprechende Warnung torpedieren, oder es muss vorher auftauchen, um Warnungsschüsse mit Artillerie abzugeben. Im aufgetauchten Zustande verliert es aber seine spezifischen Eigenschaften der Unsichtbarkeit und   Unverwundharkeit,   meistens auch die Gelegenheit zu einem Tordedotreffer ; das Schiff kann dem aufgetauchten Boote leichter entkommen, ihm sogar gefährlich werden. 



   Diese Mängel sollen durch eine Einrichtung behoben werden. die das untergetauchte Boot befähigt, aus guter   Sicherheits-und Torpedo-Schussstellung   dem Handelsschiffe vor dem Torpedoschusse eine Warnung zukommen zu lassen, ohne damit gleichzeitig seinen Unterwasserort zu verraten. Dadurch wird einerseits dem Schiffe überhaupt erst die Möglichkeit verschafft, sich einem untergetauchten und meistens noch unentdeckten U-Boote sofort und widerstandslos zu ergeben und die   Menschenleben   rechtzeitig in die Boote zu retten ; andrerseits kann das    U-Boot ein-nicht   stoppendes oder sonst widersetzliches Schiff aus sicherer Torpedoschussposition vernichten.
