Die Erfindung betrifft Funkenstrecken, wie sie in an sich bekannter Art in elek- trischen Hochspannungssystemen, beispielsweise beim Betriebe von Röntgenstrahlenröhren, als Mittel, das Fliessen von Strom auf einen möglichst scharf nach unten begrenzten
Spannungsbereich zu beschränken, Anwendung finden oder auch durch die Unterbrechungs- stellen elektrischer, vor allem der periodisch wirkenden, den Primai strom von Hochspannung- transformationsgeräten beeinflussenden Stromunterbrecher gebildet werden.
Lässt man solche Funkenstrecken, wie dies sich fast stets, schon aus Gründen der
Schalldämpfung, empfiehlt, in einem geschlossenen Gefäss arbeiten, so entstehen, wenn sie von Luft oder einem anderen, chemischen Veränderungen durch den Funken unterliegenden
Gas umgeben sind, Umwandlungsprodukte, so im Falle der Luft salpetrige Säure, die sich an der inneren Gefässwandung festsetzen und durch den elektrischen Nebenschluss zur
Funkenstrecke, den sie bilden, deren Wirksamkeit beeinträchtigen. Aber auch durch molekulare Umlagerung der Gasteilchen wird, wenn der die Funkenstrecke umgebende gasförmige Stoff leicht beweglich ist, eine Veränderung des Verhaltens der Funkenstrecke herbeigeführt.
