  Ventilhorn o. dgl. Blasinstrument.

  Valve horn or similar wind instrument.

   The invention relates to valve horns or similar musical instruments and aims for a simple shape and arrangement of the air ducts in the piston valves and the wind pipes and tuning slides connected to the valve housings. According to the invention, the tuning slides at the air inlet and outlet points for the open notes are arranged at the same height, so that the inconvenience of having to provide air ducts that can be raised and lowered in the piston valves is eliminated.

   The piston valves used in cornets and similar wind instruments usually have three rows of air passages arranged one above the other, the top two serving to guide the air first upwards and then downwards
 EMI1.1
 Valves are depressed.

   However, it has already been proposed. to arrange the air passages for the open tones in the valve pistons at the same height in order to obtain an unobstructed passage for such tones.
 EMI1.2
 shows a view of a complete wind instrument according to the invention, in which the tuning slides go in one direction with the air inlets and outlets emanating from the valve housings
 EMI1.3
 are two mutually perpendicular views of the valve housings with the connection pieces, with the halftone line extending downward;

   5 and 6 show another embodiment of the basic and semitone trains and connecting pieces, whereby in FIG. 5 the valve pistons drawn in section assume the position which is necessary to generate the open tones, while they are pushed into the position according to FIG. 6, in which they establish the connection with the tuning slides; 7 and 8 are representations corresponding to FIGS. 3 and 4, only the middle valve housing has the same diameter as the two outer ones and the halftone line on the middle housing extends in the vertical direction;

   FIG. 9 shows in cross section, on an enlarged scale, the three valves in the normal position in which the air is free
 EMI1.4
 shows the arcs of the tuning slides, the valve pistons adopting the position according to FIG. 9, while they are shown in FIG. II in the depressed position so that the air can pass through the tuning slides, but with the semitone slide in contrast to FIG. 10 is directed downwards; Fig. 12 shows in cross section the central valve with the piston pushed in, the semitone line, as indicated in Fig. 8 with dashed lines, being connected to opposite sides of the housing and being guided around the lower end thereof; Fig. 13 is a cross-sectional view of Fig. 12 with the valve piston raised to allow air to pass freely through to produce the open tones;

   FIG. 14 is a similar cross-section to FIG. II, only the passages are modified according to the semitone line and the valves are depressed so that the three tuning lines are connected to one another.

   In the embodiment according to FIG. I, which shows a cornet, the outer valve housings 1 and 3 have the normal dimensions, while the middle housing 2 is kept large in diameter, around the connection ends a of the semitone line al side by side on one side of the housing 2 and at the same height between the connecting pieces bb
 EMI1.5
 between the middle housing 2 and the outer housings 1, 3, the main inlet and outlet lines c and d are also located in the same direction (FIGS. 10 and n). The housings 1 and 3 are also provided with connection pieces e for the tuning slides f,
 EMI1.6
 As shown in FIG. 9, valve housings have a lining inside.

   Each of the valve pistons 11 and 33 is at a certain distance from its lower edge with a continuous, centrally arranged, cylindrical bore g and at a suitable height above the same, expediently at an angle of 450 with two recesses or channels h provided through an intermediate wall j are separated from one another, which is widened at its outer edges in order to be between the main duct and the branch lines through which the air is supplied to the tuning slides. to secure a suitable connection or smooth transition.

   The halftone valve 22

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 is provided with a similar through hole g, but the same is not arranged exactly in the center, since the connecting pieces b, b (Fig. 10 and lI) to the lines c and d are at a slight angle in order to provide the necessary overlap between the branch lines a and to get the main lines b through the valve piston. In the-
 EMI2.1
 arcuate canals hl, 'seen at right angles to the lower. Passages g open into the branches a connected to the semitone line a1, which in FIG. Ir corresponds to that according to FIGS. 3 and 4.

   If the pistons are pressed down in this arrangement, the free connection between the various lines is established.
 EMI2.2

 EMI2.3
 the main in-and-outlets e, d are attached to the side of the valve housings 3 and 1 and the free connection of these lines via the valves does not form a straight, but
 EMI2.4
 according to Fig. 14.

   In certain cases in which the keys must be placed very close to one another (Fig. 7) and a short semitone is required, the valve pistons 11 and 33 can be used in conjunction with a known, raised and lowered valve, which is suitable for the vertically standing halftone train is suitable. It can also use the one shown in FIG
 EMI2.5
 Can combine valves according to the invention with one of the conventional piston valves.
