Process for the preparation of therapeutically usable bismuth-iodine-alkali solutions.

According to the present invention, bismuth iodide-iodine alkali double salts or their components are to be converted into a solution which can be used for pharmaceutical purposes. This is done in such a way that iodine alkali and suitable acids are added to the bismuth iodide or its double salts in such a ratio that protein, gelatin and the like. Like. Are not precipitated by the resulting solutions.

As a result, the solutions produced by the present process differ fundamentally from the bismuth iodine alkali solutions used for analytical purposes, such as. B. the Dragendorffschen und'Manginischen reagent, etc., which egg white and gelatin u. the like. For this reason alone, the latter solutions cannot be considered for therapeutic purposes, quite apart from the fact that their high acid content precludes such use.

The solutions produced according to the present process are characterized by a high germicidal power and considerable depth of effect. If you apply these solutions to affected mucous membranes, they penetrate deeply into them and thus also reach the germs that are located in their bays and channels.

To produce such solutions, one proceeds, for example, as follows: i. 0.5 parts of bismuth iodide iodine (Kahlbaum), 7. 5 parts of sodium iodide and 0.1 part of tartaric acid are dissolved in 500 Cflta of water.

   2. 2 parts of bismuth iodide, 78 parts of potassium iodide and 3. 5 parts of glycolic acid are dissolved in 5000 parts of water.

Instead of the double compound mentioned, other bismuth iodide-iodine alkali double salts or their components can be used and instead of tartaric acid and glycolic acid, other suitable acids, such as. B. acetic acid, citric acid, lactic acid, hydriodic acid, etc. can be used.
