Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
PATENT-ANSPRÜCHE : i.

Process for the electrolytic preparation of sodium perborate.
In the electrolytic preparation of sodium perborate, it has been found to be useful to protect the power supply to the cathodes, insofar as they protrude from the electrolyte liquid, against the action of liquid and air, which is particularly noticeable at the boundary between the two.
For this purpose, you can the cathode parts at the immersion z. B. with a die
Provide air-blocking and electrolyte-resistant protective coating. For this you can z. B. a metal resistant to those influences, e.g. B. platinum, or you can paint the areas concerned with a resistant paint, or you can, if the shape allows, pull a rubber hose over the area to be protected. Finally, the cathode can also be arranged so that it does not come into contact with air at all, for example by placing the electrically conductive parts underneath the
Introduces electrolyte liquid into the electrolysis vessel.
Further investigations have shown that nickel is particularly suitable as a protective substance, because it has been found that among all substances that can be used as cathode material for the electrolytic preparation of sodium perborate, such as copper, iron, etc., nickel occupies an exceptional position as the same the contact zone between electrolyte liquid and air is not attacked. On the basis of this knowledge, it is possible to protect electrodes made of substances other than nickel or their parts used to supply current at the immersion point with nickel. You can z. B. Electrodes made of iron, copper or the like. Form nickel at the endangered areas or provided with nickel coatings.
Of course, the entire cathode can also be coated with nickel or made entirely of nickel.
The usefulness of nickel for this purpose was all the less foreseeable since, as already stated, all other base metals which can be used for the manufacture of cathodes are attacked by simultaneous exposure to electrolyte liquid and air.
PATENT CLAIMS: i. Process for the electrolytic preparation of sodium perborate, characterized in that the parts of the cathode which come into contact with the electrolyte liquid are protected against the effects of air.
