that it only represents an unnecessary burden either on the photophonogram carrier or in the photoelectric organ, which may make the technical solution of the problem of reproducing sound vibrations impossible. For this reason, and also because of the known spectral selectivity of the light-sensitive organs, it is generally advantageous to use light sources whose emitted radiation has a selective character. Radiators that have a continuous emission spectrum, such as heated solid bodies (metal wires, fleecy bodies, glowing carbon electrodes of the electric arc) are therefore less suitable.
Selectively radiating light sources are, for example, metal vapors which are made to glow by electrical discharge of high current density, such as the mercury and cadmium which are known in the art for other uses. Zinc lamps and the like. A cadmium vapor lamp, for example, would correspond to a rubidium cell as a light-electrical organ of maximum sensitivity.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Apparatus for reproducing photographically recorded sounds by optical-electrical means, characterized by a light source, the emitted radiation of which is adapted to the absorption properties of the photophonogram carrier in such a way that the radiation fluctuations and thus the amplitudes of the wave current are maximally effective.
