Process for the production of shaped pieces intended for the extraction of pig iron and quality pig iron.
English Patent No. 157.907 describes the production of a cement or adhesive from sulphite waste liquor, the waste liquor being neutralized, the precipitate being removed, the liquid being largely dewatered and finally heavy mineral oil being added. According to Austrian patent specification No. 84125, by mixing the cement or adhesive obtained in this way with coal, ore and metal waste, without prior heating and pressing in molds, it is possible to obtain weather-resistant, pressure-resistant molded pieces by cold means.
The present invention now relates to the production of shaped pieces from ore and iron waste using the specified binding agent, which can be smelted with advantage in an electric furnace or in a blast furnace on pig iron or on quality pig iron. The method consists in that fine ores, e.g. B. gravel burns, with metallic iron waste in the form of filing
EMI1.1
Flux (lime) are mixed and then kneaded together with the binder specified at the beginning, whereupon the mixture is pressed into shaped pieces without heating. The added iron waste has an important effect in that it rusts and, in the oxidized state, adheres intimately to the other mixture components and thus increases the strength of the molded pieces.
So you let the fittings store for some time until the rust formation and the associated solidification have occurred. All-
EMI1.2
Tungsten, vanadium, aluminum, etc. can be added.
The molded pieces obtained in this way are readily suitable for direct melting in the electric furnace. If, however, the shaped pieces are to be prevented in the blast furnace, it is advantageous to subject them to hardening beforehand in a known manner by exposing them to a stream of carbonated combustion gases on the way to the gout, whereby the calcium oxide present on the surface of the shaped pieces is Carbonate is converted. This process makes the fittings resistant to the action of the gout of the hoe. Hofens flowing hot gases containing water vapor.
The process offers the following advantages: 1. The fittings contain only those substances that are necessary for the smelting process and avoids all superfluous admixtures that would later have to be removed again with a expenditure of time, labor and money. As a result, the space utilization of the plant is very perfect, since the entire space is used for processing ores and iron waste.
2. The recycling of iron waste using rust formation as a binder.
EMI1.3
With the above savings and the fact that lacquer formers and reducing agents are any necessary additives, the cost of briquetting is amply outweighed.
