  Elektrolyt für Bleisammler.
 EMI1.1
Platten.

 finden.

  Electrolyte for lead collectors.
 EMI1.1
Plates. Such additives have hitherto not had a satisfactory result, they easily lead to the formation of blisters on the lead sponge and are unable to prevent discharge when the circuit is open.

It has now been found that these deficiencies are due to the fact that the additives are generally not of an entirely pure nature and that in order to achieve good results it is necessary to use sulfate in a chemically pure state. The commercially available sulfuric acid
 EMI1.2
To carry out the invention, it is therefore necessary to produce sodium sulfuric acid which is free from such impurities. This can be done by treating dicarbonate of xatrone. since it can generally be obtained in pure form commercially, can be achieved with sulfuric acid. In this way, extremely pure electrolyte is obtained, the use of which in lead collectors avoids the aforementioned deficiencies.

Instead of using sulphurous sodium in a chemically pure state. Another salt of the alkali, alkaline earth or earth series can also be used for this purpose. provided that it is used in a purely chemical state.

It has been shown that the use of such salts, preferably in combination with pure sulfuric acid, almost completely avoids local electrical circuits when the battery circuit is open and therefore enables the collector to be sealed off.

Furthermore, there is no self-discharge when the circuit is open and the collector can be discharged to zero volts by short-circuiting.
 EMI1.3
with the final electrolyte of the present invention by doing one of the following. Sulfuric acid is poured into a solution of bicarbonate of soda in distilled water and the collector plate is immersed in the discharged state in the liquid formed in this way, then no reaction is allowed to proceed until no more gas formation occurs and the collector can then be charged. The subsequent charges and discharges take place in the normal way.

A solution of bicarbonate of soda can also be poured into the collector container when the plates are discharged and the collector is charged immediately afterwards. The sulfuric acid lead contained in the lead plates is decomposed under the effect of the current and the sulfuric acid released in this way serves to supplement the electrolyte required for normal operation of the collector
In place of the alkali sulphate discussed, any other sulphate of the alkali, alkaline earth, or earth group can be used, provided that it is in a chemically pure state.

The composition of the electrolyte may vary depending on practical applications. which the collectors should find. If, for example, you want to use collectors of low capacity, which are retained for an indefinite period with open circuits, you will use an electrolyte with neutral or weakly acidic sulfate. If, on the other hand, a collector with a large capacity is to be produced, an electrolyte with a strongly acidic sulfate will be used.
