  Method of weighing silk.

The usual methods of weighing silk with tin salts mostly use chlorides, which are deposited on the fiber by hydrolysis with water or by an alkali in tin oxide or tin oxide.

Tin oxide hydrate can be converted to form hydrochloric acid. During hydrolysis with water, a non-hydrolyzed portion of the tin chloride goes into solution, which means that the washing water has to be regenerated on tin in order to avoid tin losses.

The subject of the invention is a process by which, on the one hand, a reaction with the formation of hydrochloric acid, which is harmful to the silk fibers, and, on the other hand, the inevitable losses of tin salt during hydrolysis with water are avoided. The method according to the invention consists in that
 EMI1.1
soaked in alkali stannates and the stannate is fixed on the fiber by means of carbonic acid gas.

When carrying out the process, the silk soaked in an alkali stannate solution is spun in the customary manner and then, optionally after it has dried, treated with carbonic acid. Treatment with carbonic acid, whereby the silk is spared due to the indifferent character of the carbonic acid, fixes the tin on the fiber. The silk soaked in this way is washed from the carbonate formed in rinsing baths. The difficult silk can in the manner known for the Mineralbesehwerung with phosphate water glass baths u. like, are treated further.

The method according to the invention can also be used for rayon.
